The Great Santini - not sure whether it is really a movie about Marines or fathers and sons-it is actually based on Pat Conroy's dad (see Obit at this link:http://www.skygod.com/quotes/greatsantini.html)

Personally I think we could use a few more wildassed leaders who really can lift their organization into a new level of performance just by the force of their leadership and personality. Not exactly PC:rolleyes: but guys like that are the ones who really do drive organizations to rise up to deal with any circumstance.

So try and top this movie with your nominee:wink:
 
I'm not sure if it qualifies as a "movie" but my choice is "Band of Brothers".

One of the greatest movies I ever saw. Thanks for the link to his Eulogy.
 
My son would vote for "Stapship Trooper"....before you laugh to hard, the NY Times has it in their top 10 war movies.
 
"Starship Troopers" as a movie, although entertaining, sucked. As a book it was fantastic. Have your son read it and then compare it to the movie. The NYT rates war movies???? "Enders Game" looks a lot better since the author had a lot of control. The "Great Santini" was a great underated movie. "Heartbreak Ridge" Improvise, adapt
overcome.

I have to stray off topic for just a moment.

The night before my older son was heading off for his first year of college and ROTC we watched Stripes, he loved it.

About a week into school he was in his MS class, the PMS stuck his head in the door and asked how things were going, before he left he asked "So what kind of training are we doing?" nobody said anything, my son looked around then yelled out "Aaaaarmy Training Sir" The LCT just smiled and said "That's a fact Jack", he said most of the cadets just gave him a funny look. That really broke the ice, my son had a great relationship with the PMS, they kept trading quotes from Stripes.

To be honest I was surprised he had the guts to yell it out.

Still a great movie.

On a more serious note, I would add "We were Soldiers" to the great movies listed so far.

The intel guy in me wants to say Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy.
