What changes will we see in the NROTC Portal to know if the file went before the board? If it went before the board, but was not selected, what does the Portal reflect? If it didn't make it to the board, what will the portal show? How soon after any board is completed, would scholarship winners be notified?

I was wondering the same thing. The recruiter for my DD felt as if her application was submitted in time to be seen by the first board, but I have no way of knowing if that happened. She completed her application and interview about 2 weeks ago.

This is what the portal says for her status :

"Application has been submitted online Your electronic application has been received and is being processed ...
Your application is at Naval Education and Training Command for final processing and selection determination. Selection decisions will begin in late August and continue until the end of April. Once a selection decision has been made, your new status will be reflected."

"Once a selection decision has been made, your new status will be reflected."

Just like the portal says, your status will change when you have received a scholarship or have been denied one. It can be a tough wait with no indication of what is happening until a final decision is made. You may see a decision next week or you may not see a status change until April.

My best wishes to both of you.

I believe this can vary. DS received his notification via email 1st with snail mail following a few days later. We think he was notified via email within a week or two of the decision based on the date on his snail mail letter, but since we didn't know the Board dates there was no way to know for certain.

Here was a post I wrote November 2011 regarding our experience; just be aware "Past Performance is Not Necessarily Indicative of Future Results"

For others who may be wondering how the timing works, my son was notified on Friday (11/4) by email that he had received the NROTC scholarship. His status was updated when he checked it online as well. His letter and DoDMERB application arrived in the mail today (11/7); his letter is dated 10/27/11. His acceptance must be received by 11/18, so that's only 11 days from now. He is supposed to contact the doctors for appointments within 5 days of receipt of the letter.

Again - I know I've read questions about the timing of some of the processes, so thought I'd share.

I also answered a question about when DS had completed app, etc and here was my response:

He submitted his application and had his Naval Officer interview at the very end of August. Everything on his app was complete at that time. I think there was a September Board Review but it appears he was selected during the October review. Extend our best wishes to your son!

Hang in there and my best wishes!

Thanks for the reply Jiller.

My question was more along the lines of if the application is ready to be seen by the board or not. Their sentence of "Your application is at Naval Education and Training Command for final processing" does not give me a warm feeling that it is board ready when I see the words "final processing".

Biker - sorry, I guess I was trying to answer your question and USMAROTCFamily's at the same time

I never had access to DS portal information so I am not certain what it said when all was complete. Hopefully someone else will be able to answer that question. I do feel like I have read other threads on this topic in the past that covered this.

I submitted my application about 3-4 weeks ago (all items completed) and my portal says this:

"The NSTC Selection/Placement Office has received your application.
Missing Items
All required items have been processed.
Selection Status
No decision has been made on your application" And then continues with my personal data.

My portal remained like yours for about a week and then changed to this. Hope this helped!

Thanks MLD. That confirms what I was thinking.

My DD texted me that her portal status changed to what MustLoveDogs posted. So hopefully that is an indication that her app is ready to be seen by the next board. She is applying for the nurse option.

DD's portal finally changed to this configuration this week. It took 3 weeks from the time they verified they had everything in for the "packet" for it to move to this stage. I guess she is finally board ready.

Best Thing To Do Now Is

Breath...

Sept, Oct, Nov, Dec, Jan, Feb, March, April... (9/14 -- 213 and a wake-up)

You might not know a thing until April.

Good luck to you all!

I'm just glad to know that the file is ready for the boards now. That calms me down a lot knowing it is done and out of our hands. Now, DD just needs to keep chugging on all of these college applications and outside scholarship applications. After all the college apps are done, I think I'll be able to relax for a couple of months; until the April 1st regular decision college notices start coming in. At least that is what I keep telling myself!

My portal has been on final processing since the third week of August. Everyone I spoke to assured me it'd be seen at the first board at the end of the month.

Has it or has it not? I'm going to be less than satisfied if my coordinator flat out gave me wrong information. I don't mean to be impatient but 100k+ is kind of a big deal.

latest word I got that was confirmed by several sources was that there was no August Board. The first Board is at the end of this month (Sept). DS was awarded the ISR, so the Board is only a formality to verify he is qualified.

My DS's portal changed last week to read a whole bunch of data. This is what it says now...

The NSTC Selection/Placement Office has received your application.

Missing Items
All required items have been processed.

Selection Status
No decision has been made on your application.

Oh alright, thank you.

Looks like I'm not the only one with Embry-Riddle as my first choice. Maybe I'll see him there :)

I've seen people post on the way the application looks after they applied but mine just looks like this.

Application has been submitted online Your electronic application has been received and is being processed ...
Your application is at Naval Education and Training Command for final processing and selection determination. Selection decisions will begin in late August and continue until the end of April. Once a selection decision has been made, your new status will be reflected.

It has looked liked this for about a month. Does anyone know what the difference is between this and the other screens shown on the application status?

This is how DD's portal looked for the last month, until it changed this week to how GREVAR's DS's portal looks. I'm guessing that this is the change of how the portal should look once all of the information is confirmed and "processed" to be prepared for the board. Of course, this is only a guess. While our DD had everything submitted in time for what we would have thought was the first board (which was cancelled), everybody says that doesn't mean that her filed would have been ready or been seen by that first board. I'm hoping that the change in portal means that now it really is ready for the board.

Not so sure. DS received a LOA to the Coast Guaed Academy this week. He will likely go there if he doesn't get accepted at USNA. He will probably keep the NROTC scholarship until the last minute just in case something happens.

Grevar, congrats to your son!

Thanks DTG. Wondering now exactly how to handle the NROTC scholarship when it comes in. From all I read he should accept and pay the school deposit then turn it down right after I Day.
