Hello everyone,

Last year I applied to the USCGA, was accepted and then medically disqualified. I have a couple questions regarding my application this year to the academy and was hoping you all could help.

1. I am currently a College Freshman, when would be the earliest I could apply to the USCGA? (I have heard that EA are only for high school seniors).

2. Regarding the DoDMERB exam, when would be the earliest I could begin the medical process?

3. Will I need all new letters of rec. or essays?

DoDMERB exams are valid for 2 years.

If you were DQ'd due to a time limitation....i.e. off meds for X amount of time, than until you meet that time frame, you would still need a waiver. Chances are it would still not be waived.

If it is a medical issue, such as, asthma, than they are still going to still use the exam you took last yr. They will not order a new exam until you pass the 2 yr exam marker.

1. You can apply as early as you want, but your record won't be considered complete and eligible for review until we receive an official college transcript from your fall semester...unless your first semester ends before 11/15, you're probably only going to be eligible for RA review.

2. As Pima said, you don't need to complete the entire DoDMERB medical exam again if your last exam was taken on/after July 1, 2012. You'll just need to submit a Present Health Questionnaire to update your DoDMERB medical record.

3. You don't need new letters of recommendations and essays, you could just resubmit the ones from last year, but you probably want to get new ones.
