Shots fired at Naval Shipyard DC

They are saying that there are fatalities, but not the number of them. Also one of the victims shot is a police officer. There have been 5 helos dropping baskets. and it appears they are bringing up the victims.

Reagan has stopped outbound flights. The bridge is also closed.

I am just curious how this guy got in with not just one gun, but 3 guns.

ABC just updated to 10 shot, but not sure if 4 of the fatalities is part of the 10 shot. The helo's keep dropping baskets so it appears that they are getting the victims out.

They are interviewing people now that was in the hall when he first started shooting.

They say he is contained, but not in custody. I guess they know where he is in the building, but can't get him yet.

Per LITS standing orders, I refrain from trusting any news for 48 hours, but the PAO from the Navy Yard or Naval District Washington said that two suspects had been taken down but authorities were sweeping other buildings to be sure.

It will be interesting to see the motive...workplace or terrorism.

They are now confirming via the police 8 are now dead. 12 victims total.

The FBI and DC police that are headed to Bolling AFB for reported possible shots fired there too. Meyers, Walter Reed, and other DC area bases are in 100% i.d. now.

Everyone on the bases please take care and be careful.

Praying for all the victims and their familes.

Aside from Aurora CO, I can't recall a "disgruntled employee/student" coordinated shooting like this. Nevertheless, my money is on terror, but I expect in any case it will be called 'workplace violence'.

Aurora was coordinated? Are you counting the lone shooter's multiple personalities?

DC Police Chief just gave press conference. I thought she said two shooters down, looking for possibly two more. Nothing at Bolling after all.

The DC Chief is now saying that there are potentially now 2 more shooters for a total of 3. One is deceased. They are saying the other 2 were dressed in military garb and are potentially on the loose. I assume potentially because the building is so large it could take a long time to sweep.

The scary part is how on earth did they get in the building because at least what people interviewed are saying it is like the Pentagon. You have to have an i.d. that scans to get through the entrance turnstile. Thus, how did they get in if they didn't have an ID? Plus, how do you hide a rifle upon entering a building, especially if it is like the Pentagon where you go through metal detectors if you don't have an ID?

That also doesn't address how they actually got on the base itself because it is a secure base. They had to go through the gates too.

We should not be discussing in an open forum the specifics of access to any specific building or base nor should we be discussing the "how"s.

That being said, it is possible that some of those shot were the security at the entrance point.

Many members of the public can see the gates you enter at the Pentagon (and CGHQ, and just about any other federal institution in D.C.). It's aint classified, and it certainly aint unknown (I'm using "aint" for effect)! However the ins and outs of random searches, random screenings and responses are likely LE confidential (at the very least).

How do you get in? Well, you have access, of course. Fort Hood was a soldier. Why couldn't these be sailors? I'm guessing we're all holding our breaths to hear the M word used.....

OPSEC gets loose on many subjects throughout these forums at times. General comments about checking IDs is one thing, talking about the specifics of building access for a building which not everyone with base access can get into, nor even every NAVSEA subordinate command employee can get into is quite another.

I am not sure why we should not be discussing what I posted on an open forum when the media is doing it on the airwaves with their military consultants. WJLA, CNN, FOX are all explaining exactly what I posted.

I.E. These ret. military officers are saying the exact same thing I just stated. Plus, everyday the Pentagon gives tours to visitors. It is common knowledge of how the screening/entering process works to get into the Pentagon. It def. is not classified.

One police officer was MPD, and the other was a base security officer. However, I doubt it was the gate guard because that would have occurred outside and rarely have I ever seen only 1 guard alone, plus at ever base I have ever gone to carries big time weapons, thus I assume they would have been able to get off a shot before getting into the building alerting everyone of the impending danger. 8 a.m. is the start of the duty day. Nobody has said they saw anything outside. The police have stated the shooting started inside the building.

The person shot in front of CVS across the street does question how that happened....before or after or during? I say that because they are looking for 2 more suspects.

If you are in VA, turn on channel 7. They are discussing exactly the process is for how to get on the base.

"So and So" is doing it does not make it right. Again ... general base access is one thing, the specifics of a building that is not general access to anyone with base access is something entirely different. :bang:

I'm listening to WMAL right now. I've been in that building many times albiet not in several years and I've eaten in the refernced food court. You might be surprised at how much someone with maliscious intent can pick up in small bits from open source material to forumalte an effective plan to carry out said maliscious intent. You can do what you want but that is a fact.

Not to divert or argue, but I am not understanding why you think the procedure to get on a military installation is classified and cannot be discussed on an open forum.

If it was classified, surely retired military analysts would state it is a classified situation and cannot discuss it. If it was classified the Pentagon would not be giving tours to people every single day by the bus loads.

I just don't get how you think the procedure for entering the building is classified. The offices in the buildings and where they are located maybe classified, but not this. Their process is like many federal buildings, i.e. courthouses. You have to be escorted in if you do not work in the building. Heck at my kids HS, you can't get pass the entrance without an ID. Right next to the sign in person is a county police officer. Is that classified too? It is just post 9/11 life. And for DC it is also post sniper life too. In this area it is just expected that you will have an ID to swipe, and go through metal detectors prior to entering into the restricted area.

OBTW, I also think anyone that wants to do harm to military members has done their own recon, and I highly doubt SAF is where they are going to gather information on the procedure to get on any military installation.

Back on topic. If the 2 other shooters were dressed in military garb, people exiting in the way this occurred could mean they exited with everyone, and nobody would have thought 2x about it.

MPD was on site within 7 minutes.

It also explains why the helos are still circling around the building for the past 4 + hrs.

It's not classified nor did I ever say it was. Operational Security (OPSEC) is the process of protecting little pieces of data that could be grouped together to give the bigger picture and is practiced specifically with respect to UNCLASS information. I never said "cannot", only "should not"

Stick around this town long enough and you will see that the divulging of classified information by retired military analysts in the interests of that retired person's being a TV/Radio "expert" is the rule and not the exception.

No doubt. And loose lips....

I don't think we're crossed that line here, but I'm sure we COULD head in that direction eventually.

You will also see the withholding of information for political reasons...
