My essay topic is why do you want to attend a service academy, and my first choice is Air Force and second choice is Naval. In my essay, can I say "I want to attend the United States Air Force Academy because..." or should I say "I want to attend a Service Academy because..."

I really would rather go to the USAFA than USNA or USMA, but would take any.

You can go either way, however if you are truly looking for a nomination to any of the academies, my recommendation would be to explain first why you want to go to a service academy, and then why USAFA is your top choice. By doing this you demonstrate that your first priority is to serve, and that you would be open to a nomination to one of the other academies, but still have in mind what service and school you would prefer.

+1.
