frat hit????

noobie and maybe a dumb question - what is a frat hit?? are frats allowed at the academy?
 
I believe "frat" is short for "fraternizing". C4Cs and upperclassmen are not allowed to fraternize with each other. I've heard it mostly in reference to dating across classes. So I would think a "frat hit" is a violation of the policy of no fraternizing.
But I'm speculating a bit, not being a cadet.
 
Just a guess but might this be possibly referring to "fraternization" rather than "fraternity"?
 
Fraternization, it is a pretty serious hit. It is more than just dating, it can be certain types of socializing between an upperclassman and a Doolie from the same squadron.
 
Frat is a pretty big no-no here. You are not exactly allowed to be "friends" with upperclassmen. Until recognition, it is a professional relationship. You are a doolie and they are not, and that's the way it is. Usually typical conversation will not get you in trouble, we're all human and we're forced to live with each other- if we weren't interested in each other's lives it would be a bit unbearable. But if people start to notice an upperclass going by a particular 4 dig's room and shooting the you-know-what all the time, the two are seen together often, others will speculate.
Bottom line: Know where the line is, and DO NOT CROSS IT. It may seem innocent to you, but the fact of the matter is that if others are questioning your behavior, you should not be doing whatever it is you are doing. You don't want to end up with that type of reputation. Getting a fraternization hit is a big deal- and not in a good way.
Also, although it is common, it does not always occur within the same squadron.

duh - now that makes sense. too many slang terms to understand from someone without a military background. thats why i couldnt find it when i did a search. i guess i didnt realize that relationship is not allowed?

what are the possible consquences of that happening? in other words, can you get sanctioned for that? can you get kicked out? what's the least and the worst thing that can happen to you? are the doolies told about this or is this just an assumed policy? - i assume yes considering the statements sound so serious.

You guys' don't consider certain types of socializing between a 1/c and 3/c cadet to be frat as well?

When thinking about the punishment for breaking the rules, it's always good to really only think of the WORST that could happen.

The worst punishment for frat with a willing partner.... being kicked out.

Relationships between any upperclass are allowed. Only unrecognized 4 degrees are not included. I wouldn't say there are many firsties dating 3 degrees, though.. ha!

I believe it goes beyond unrecognized C4Cs. C4Cs are not upperclassmen until after the C1Cs graduate.

Of course, C4Cs are then C3Cs after C1Cs become 2nd Lt.s.

Probably a good time to mention, frat may be defined differently at academies. SamAca was alluding to the fact that at USCGA, relationships beyond professional working relationships between 1/c and 3/c are also considered frat.
 
Nope, C3C and C1C relationships are fine at USAFA, as long as it is not in the direct chain of command, i.e. a 3 degree shouldn't date his/her flight commander or element leader. I can actually think of an example of this in my squadron (both have now graduated and they are married)
