Greatest Generation storm Monuments

Awesome.

Love the story of the police officer who "enforced" the rule then turned his back so he couldn't see these true heroes do what they so justly deserved to do... class act.

I agree. Well done to the old timers ... and I have to say it seems to be about the most intelligent policing one could hope for.

Now in this case, I hope most of congress have game tickets and the game is cancelled. Then if the chumps from the hill want to 'storm' the place, let them play a few qtrs of hard tackle ball without gear. should be fun to watch.

Maybe that's how we should resolve this dispute? Elephants vs Donkeys for 4 quarters. I know some fields that will be free this weekend!

In maybe their last battle, they won again. Damn the park police, full speed ahead. God Bless them.

“I’m not going to enforce the ‘no stopping or standing’ sign for a group of 90 World War II veterans,” said a U.S. Park Police officer, who declined to give his name. “I’m a veteran myself.”

Nicely done by the Park Police. In a city that was on edge today, this was a story that popped up in the office and made some people smile.

Well, I kind of feel like we just went through 4 qtrs plus a couple of OTs during the last election, yet, the games haven't ended. I vaguely recall a time when the election season started around Labor Day, and 'game over' on election day.... the same year. But then I'm an old guy...

You and me both, brother! Amen!

There is no self respecting Police Officer anywhere in this Country who would
arrest a Veteran of this Country visiting a war memorial.
What we need to do is send Americans to Washington who will really do the Peoples business. Sad to say though I don't think many Americans care.

I think I like the storyline that the current generation stormed the barriers for the WWII vets and the police allowed them. In fact, if I read correctly, a Congressman was right there, leading the charge (he's also a Marine Corp vet).

DD just had a great idea. Active duty Marines (and all other on active duty in the area) still being paid under shutdown and in the DC area volunteer to perform as escorts for the veterans to make sure they are not terrorists or trying to destroy the monument. No need for park police. Park Police might have to move the barricades to get a wheelchair through but active military could bring them in. Article 15 could be in their future but it would look good.

Yes that's what I want to see AD military providing security in the US.... No.

Yes, I read that a couple of congressmen were there grandstanding. I don't know who they were and I really could not care less about their vet status. This was grandstanding at its very worst. The only thing that could make this any worse is to learn that they were Rs voting against funding the gov't then rushing out the door to meet this prearranged photo op.

In other news, I just heard on the news that in Philly the Old City Tavern ( a very nice restaurant, and formerly a popular meeting place for the continental congressmen) happens to occupy a National Park building. They will need to close... cancelling reservations as we speak. The weekend is in doubt. Lots of wait staff getting stiffed. the ripple effect is beginning to hit hard around here.
