DS just got the call ----- LOA on the way!

USNA Admissions officer just called the house asking for DS. He is in school. Asked for his cell and said he needed to speak to him right away...he had "good news".

Of course, I knew what that probably was.... I texted my DS in school and told him to answer the next call that came in. A few minutes later...LOA CONFIRMED!

The AO told him that he would get the official letter once the shutdown ended, but it was a sure thing.

We are so proud of him. He has now received the NROTC Scholarship, a LOA to USCGA and now an LOA to USNA. Way to go boy! We love you!

Now comes the hard part. Decisions Decisions Decisions. Of course, fully understanding he needs the MOC nom for USNA only.

So, there ya go. LOA's are still rolling out. Even during the "shutdown":thumb:
 
Congratulations to your DS grevar! That is totally awesome. On to the nom and then wrestling with his decision. I'm sure it will not be easy. Many folks would say it's a no brainer, but it's not. One has to decide where one fits best.

Thanks Kinnem. Yeah, you are correct about that. Many folks wouldn't understand if he chose USCGA over USNA. He wrestles with that very dilemma. As a Dad, it'll be interesting to see how he handles this. Up until this call came in, he was leaning hard in the direction of USCGA. Only time will tell if he direction changes.

That is somewhat the intent of an LOA, to have a psychological impact on the candidate.

Everybody loves to be loved. :)

Remember in grade school there was always that girl in the classroom that you never paid much attention to - never talked to her - and you didn't find her particularly attractive? Then somebody comes up to you and says, "Katie really likes you! I overheard heard her tell somebody at lunch."

"You heard her say that she likes me?"

"Yeah, she really likes you."

"You mean, like, she like-likes me?"

Hmmm...

You take another look at Katie across the classroom. All of a sudden, Katie seems a bit more interesting and attractive. You may have to talk to her at recess the next opportunity you get. This changes everything!
 
@grevar - Whatever he decides (and I know I'm preaching to the choir) make sure he understands he can't look back! Any path will get $h1tty at times and the path in the rear view mirror will suddenly look greener. No space or time for that! :thumb:
 
Congrats!!! Our family was in the same situation one year ago. Lots of good options. You should be proud. It is an exciting time. Hang on, it is just begining.
 
Why do people feel the need to boast about their children getting an LOA? Also is it really necessary to publicly congratulate "Way to go boy we love you" and let us all know that you have a hard decision ahead of you on this forum?.....Its borderline obnoxious, not to mention all those smiley faces if you ask me and a lack of humility.

Let's see, because you're proud of your child? :rolleyes: Knowing grevar from previous posts to the forum I have no doubt he and his DS are both humble and grateful. And yes, that sort of falls to the background in all the excitement that a dream has pretty much come true. And what could possibly be wrong with a little celebration at such a time!

Congratulations! This is quite an accomplisment. Post a million smiley faces. This is an extremely intense process and to achieve these results should be shouted from the mountaintop.
 
I wish I had thought of adding the animated smiley faces when I posted about my son's LOA.

You're just jealous that his kid got into CGA... a real sea going school. A place that still teaches celestial, a place that doesn't ground training vessels on the rocks in front of KP.
 
I for one am new to this and Grevar has been a real help in helping my DS and me along the way. As a parent of a DS trying to get into either USNA, USCGA, USAFA or the NROTC route it is helpful to see how my DS compares to another DS stat wise. We realize there is a lot more involved besides stats, but learning of his experience can give you an idea of how your DS stacks up. We are truely happy for his DS and hopeful our DS can have a similar experience. Why wouldn't you be?

I've been sitting here thinking about how to respond to this comment and honestly I'm glad I waited a bit to think this through. To insinuate a lack of humility is a complete mischaracterization of us. Completely unfair of you in my opinion. Especially coming from someone who appears to be member of the class of 2015.

While my son has worked very hard to get where he is at we all fully recognize that he is simply blessed beyond measure to have reached these goals so early. We know from reading this forum for months that there are many kids so much more qualified than he and some of them end up not getting an appointment to either school let alone both. I certainly can't explain the reasons nor will I even try other than to say we recognize how blessed we are. It is that very humility that will make him a fine officer no matter which direction he chooses.

Maybe one day you will find yourself as blessed as I am with smart, ambitious kids that you can be proud of privately and publicly. If a parent can't be publicly proud of their child even in an anonymous forum like this what has our world come to?

I am proud of all of these young men and women who have posted of such early successes. I am also proud of those who have chosen to serve our great country even someone as misguided as yourself.

I am the DS of grevar. My father and I are just openly excited to have received such an honor. In no way was my father's thread "obnoxious". We are a humble family and this thread's purpose was not to boast. It was simply to show our excitement and on top of that, to show others that LOA's are still being received. I have been reading these threads for months and have never replied to anything. Not to be disrespectful, but I had to reply this time because what you said was out of hand and honestly none of your business. If you find it "obnoxious" and "lacking humility" simply move on to the next thread instead of spending your time putting others down. You're a junior at the Naval Academy? I am positive that you could be spending your time doing something important rather then rudely commenting on a thread which honestly has nothing to do with you.

On a good note. I am honored to have received this LOA. Now I just have to evaluate which one suits me best.:thumb:

Since you are a midshipmen you know firsthand the joy and pride of being chosen to attend the USNA. But being all of 20 years old and likely not a parent yet.... you have no idea the pride a parent feels when one of their children is finally awarded a nomination/scholarship/waiver ect... This forum is a safe place for all to ask questions, vent frustration give and seek support and exchange information. I for one have found a great deal of information and support on this forum. I have been PM'd for answers and received encouragement on several subjects. Their is no harm in anybody, awardee or parent, being excited for their accomplishments.
