Waiver possibilites

Is there a waiver if a candidate is currently taking Accutane? I know it's an automatic DQ but is there any way around this while still taking the medication? I've only been on this medication for 10 days.

I don't know about waivers. I'm just curious about the timing though. If you knew it was an automatic DQ... Why start taking the medication a mere 10 days ago? If you were taking for 10 months and then found out it was going to be an issue I would have understood.

I'm not trying to badger you. I simply don't understand. Isn't Accutane a choice as well? At least, I don't think it is a medical necessity. Forgive me if I'm wrong about this.

+1. If you knew it was a medical DQ why did you start taking it without getting your answers first? Even if you didn't know it was a DQ, why did you start taking it without getting your answers first? Doesn't seem to be a lot of forethought here.

Applicants under treatment with systemic retinoids, including, but not limited to isotretinoin (Accutane(r)), are disqualified until 8 weeks after completion.

My own guess (and I am just a parent) is that given the short time frame there would not be a waiver but instead perhaps a remedial 8 weeks after the course of treatment is complete. But like I said, I'm just a parent. You can probably get more info from the folks who lurk over on the DoDMERB threads.

I didn't even think about looking it up before starting medication. Didn't look it up till after I took exam, I can stop taking the medication easily though. I feel really stupid now though.

I think the bigger issue is what was it prescribed for? Is that a disqualifying ailment or condition?

I know nothing about the drug or it's use. Whatever you do, don't attempt to conceal your use of it. Waivers can be granted for DODMERB DQ, however a breach of integrity is never overlooked.

Sorry to be tough on you. The point of doing so was to get you to look ahead in the future. You need to think about how any drug will impact you, not just now, but in your entire life and your future opportunities. I do hope all works out well for you. Now that you're on it, you're waiting 8 weeks anyway. I don't know how long the treatment is but you can do the math. It might be smart to continue treatment and get it over with and behind you. You know the information you have, do the research on the rest with DoDMERB, and make the smart decision.

Contact you RC or FFRand let them know the background. Might qualify for you waiver if your are a very competitive candidate and the fact that you only took for 10 days might make it difference.
