Tried to answer this question by reading Q & A information and past posts etc., but still unclear about something regrarding MOC nominations & number of candidates from a certain state. For this question just assume talking about state nom. from senator or congressman. There are different ways they can give their list of candidate noms. to the Academy-admissions dept. i.e. ranked, not ranked, principal etc.. but the MOC are limited to the number of sponsored candiates at the academy, but I heard there can be additional appointments by the various academies based upon how many they need. So, the question: "is there a limitation for the number of people from a certain state that can be at the academies, and how do the nominations normally come to the academy?" Also not limited to USAF & USNA, but these two are DS interest. Thanks for the input & help.:confused:

There is no limitation on how many people from a particular state can be at one of the academies. Not exactly sure what you mean by 'how do noms normally come to the academy', but guessing at what your looking for I believe most noms are on competitive slates. If a nominee is not selected off of a MOCs slate, they go on the national waiting list. The balance of the student body is selected off this list.

Thx. for info.

This clarifies the question about the national list and removes the concern that a MOC is limited to 4 candidates at a certain academy;

what I meant about the noms. normally to the academy was, do the MOC mostly pick a "principal" candidate or do they mostly just provide an unranked list of them.
thx. again.

That is entirely up to the MOC, and varies by MOC. From our experience last year, it seems many MOC's submit unranked, competitive slates however that is never clear. Unless they actually tell you, you won't know for certain.

In my DS' case last year, he received two nominations from different MOCs (one USMA, one USNA). One MOC stated in the letter that she followed a "competitive slate" process and that the academy would pick from the nominees The other letter was ambiguous, just stating DS would be competing for an appointment from others on the slate. Since that MOC publically announced his appointee three weeks later, and long before files were finalized in February, my expectation is that the MOC actually submitted a "Principal w/Alternates" slate to the academy. Since the principal had an LOA or was already 3Q, the appointment could be announced and DS was actually competing nationally.

Thank you for the information. I see candidates postings LOA with Presidential noms., it looks like they getting reviewed first. Otherwise the nom. packets, at least for a state here in the midwest, are due the end of this month. MOCs really have shared how their "list" is prepared and what goes to the academies.
