Can a scholarship officer sway Ivy League Admissions?

I received an email from an Army scholarship officer from an ivy league battalion.

She said she wants to write me a LOR for my Ivy League's admissions board.

She also said I am extremely competitive for the Ivy League school.

Exactly how much can the officer sway admissions? Any experience?

Hmmmm. In answer to your question, it depends on the school.

Now I have a question for you. Based on my assumption that said officer does not know you, how could they write a meaningful LOR for you?

Not saying you shouldn't pursue this further but I know the hairs on the back of my neck are standing up. Be sure about who you are communicating with.

My DS attends an Ivy where the AROTC unit submits a rank ordered list to admissions. My son was also told by an admissions officer at the school that they work closely with the AROTC unit and take their recommendations into consideration. My DS was deferred during SCEA and admitted during regular admission. The AROTC unit submitted their list in January. He had been awarded a 4-year AROTC scholarship in the fall. He is absolutely convinced that it was the recommendation of the AROTC that turned the tables. That is in contrast to the Ivy where he was award an NROTC MO scholarship. He was told by both admissions and the unit that while the university welcomed NROTC no consideration would be given. He was denied admission to that university. Bottom line it depends on the school. It is a valid question to ask and they will be forthright with the answer.
