hello! I had a question that is rather quite strange.
I would love to hear some opinions

I have DESIRED to be either an aerospace engineer or weapons developer since I was around 7. I've also been doing paper crafting(building models and sorts) since I was 8 or so. After I built enough models, I wanted bigger challenges. One day, I got an idea; what if I built a functioning firearm with paper?

By that, I mean actual mechanically functioning firearms not one of those hollow paper replicas.

By the end of that month, I knew inside out of conventional rifles like AK and M16/M4.

If you know anything about how firearms work, I decided to give the AK design a try (it's mechanically simple and more plausible to be done with paper).
Few months later, I made the firearm, did a little primer testing, and it worked.

And take my word, this was done ONLY because I wanted to see if it could be done.

But, my mom put a stop to this, broke everything I've made, and took my tools away ;(

When I started my application to Air Force Academy, I knew I wanted to work on the weapons system on the aircraft or things of that nature. I wanted to write about my firearm project in "what is unique about you" section in the writing resonses. I consulted my parents and sibling but told me not to write it. They said it might give bad impression to them.

However, I feel like it's something that not everyone have done and involved with something I really want to do.

What do you guys think? I know some ALOs are in this forums and thoughts would be appreciated!

Thank you!

I suspect your Mom is worried about the politically correct world. I actually think she was heading in the right direction by destroying them, although locking them up might have been a good approach.

That being said, I don't see anything wrong with bringing it up in a responsible manner. Focus on how things work, as opposed to it being a gun. Don't ignore it was a gun, just where the focus is. That's not to say your Mom's fears are unfounded. There are 2 people in every conversation and you never know how the other will react.

Ultimately, it's your application and your decision IMHO.

As long as you did it in a legal manner, I don't think it would hurt you.

Heck, if it actually could function, I'd be impressed. 7.62x39 can generate almost 60,000PSI, if I remember right.

My kids have built everything from cardboard weapons (of all sorts) and potato guns to rebuilding their own firearms. Stay legal, and maybe demonstrate you know the "rules of firearms and weaponry" and I'd think you'll be ok. After all, this isn't dance class you're applying to.

well I haven't done a full load and I don't intend to. I just used one of those pop caps for primers with 5.56 brass. I don't think going full load is a good idea especially on paper guns haha
