DS received an email from AO yesterday telling him to expect a phone call from the soccer coach. Coach Parsons called tonight at about 9PM confirming the news... A Direct Appointment is coming for DS.

It's exhilarating, emotional, humbling, gratifying and overwhelming all at the same time. He is blessed to receive an early Appointment to his 1st choice. He is absolutely going to Coast Guard Academy and looks forward to serving in the US Coast Guard.

I can't thank Objee and the other posters enough for all the information, answers and support found here. And especially his AO who answered DS's every question, returned every phone call, responded to each email, etc... Thank you LCDR Frazier.

DS will celebrate with a cigar with the guys tomorrow night and then a tour aboard a CG Cutter on Saturday in Portsmouth, VA. Life is good.

Best wishes to all of the other candidates seeking Appointments.

Congrats to your DD and your family! What great news!

Proud Father of candidate of the Class of 2018
DD received LOA 10/15- USCGA

Congrats. Awesome news. Looks like BFEs will be arriving soon.

Congratulations and welcome to the Coast Guard family. You'll find the parents, alumni and the Parent's Association, more active and interactive than you can imagine. I speak from the experience of putting two old children through college and rarely meeting even the parents of the offspring's roommates (nice enough though at least some of them were). I'd go into detail, but it's more fun if you find out for yourself. Again, congratulations to you and DS. He wouldn't have gotten where he is without a good upbringing.

This goes for some of the other parents and appointees, too. Even though I haven't congratulated all of you. Well done. Welcome aboard.:thumb:

Who are the folks in the photo?

This is DS and his nursing school sister. This was taken at the end of AIM Week 1.

Thanks everyone for all the encouragement and welcoming. It does feel as though the whole family is embarking on an adventure and becoming part of something special.

DS just learned that his roommate from AIM received an LOA a couple of weeks ago. DS asked, "Will you commit"? Fellow AIMSter responds, "Hell yeah!!!"

Ha! Just realized the top of my head is also in that photo.

Your son will soon find out, bringing your sister to the Academy takes some guts...

Oh god, the amount of people who end up dating someone's sister over the course of those four years...

And worse, the amount of people who get into fights because someone's sister is now their ex... priceless.

Congrats!

Congrats to all of you. I know you are so proud! Looking forward to that celebration you mentioned. DS interviewed with with one of the Senator's panels on Saturday. His LOA was brought up by each of the panelists and the Admin. Taking that as a good sign but still want to wait until there is a NOM in hand.

Is your DS bubble-wrapped yet? Watched a soccer game yesterday against a team that came in "chippy" and it only got worse as they got behind and time began to run out. Held my breath watching DS who got fouled every time he tried to make a run up the field from the back with the ball.

Congratulations!! Still waiting on my decision, hope to see him next summer!!

Looks like BFEs will be arriving soon.

Appointment packages will probably start being mailed next week, but the first round of notification letters were published yesterday. Applicants can view these letters from their application homepage.

Thanks Objee!

DS sent me a text at 8:52am stating that he submitted the enrollment form. Apparently, consultations with mom and/or dad are not required for him to forge ahead. We are doubly blessed in that he knows what he wants and he was fortunate to receive his first choice.

We are still hoping for good news from the other great candidates that have applied. We are especially pulling for the folks that we met on the CG Cutter tour in Portsmouth, VA.
