I want to do ROTC for sure in college. Problem is, I may not get the scholarship. If not, what happens then? Do I apply for college then sign it up like a regular class?

should I speak to someone in charge of the ROTC?

Specifically Autsin peay...Could be right in front of me, just not sure where to look

I would post the link but can't.

apsu [dot] edu / rotc

you can delete this thread, I believe i found my answer, just to call around and schedule an interview basically...

If you don't get the scholarship, you just register for a military science class at the college you're attending. Then you take it as a free class and have the opportunity to compete for on-campus scholarships.

+1, but I recommend talking tot he cadre at the campus to ensure you are properly enrolling for the full suite of courses freshman year. There is academic, lab, and PT courses you need to enroll in. Course numbers will vary by college.

+1 kinnem

Many colleges will have new student orientation in the early part of the summer. This is when you will meet with your academic adviser to plan your academic career/course schedule. Some schools will have ROTC available to guarantee it syncs with their program requirements.

When you select your college to matriculate for fall 14, contact the cadre regarding course selection. This is especially important if your college is not the host unit because running back to the dorm for a quick shower before your class in 45 mins is not the same as getting back to your college, and being able to take a shower.

Thanks to everyone.

I usually talk to this guy at the gym who is a sophomore doing rotc on scholarship funds. He explained it to me for the most part and I have applied to austin peay which will most likely be my pick. I will ask him specifically what classes/courses to take and what to prepare for...That is if i cannot get a scholarship.

Thanks!

I'm an APSU ROTC alum. PM me if you have questions.

You'll need the same information even if you get a scholarship. You sign up for the classes, not NROTC. Make sure you get it right when you sign up, with or without the scholarship. It can save you a lot of juggling later, and probably ending up with other classes you really didn't want, because the ones you wanted were full when you rejuggled.

DS is a non scholarship freshman at Dickinson. He is so committed, and will contract as a junior. We would love for him to be considered for a scholarship. My question, does he need to reapply for scholarship, or are the students automatically considered?

If there is scholarship money available in his BN, the cadre will focus it on those cadets who show the most promise. Once on campus, this is the only means to obtain a scholarship.

No guarantee these days on the availability of scholarship money, but if his attitude is right and the effort follows the attitude, only good things can happen.
