Hey everyone! I know you all see this question a whooole lot; What are my chances of getting the NROTC scholarship? And yes, I am asking a long the lines of this...

My question is this...

I was told by my officer that I had my interview with that my academics and leadership aspects were above average for most candidates that he's seen before, but my only problem is that I am not a part of any athletics in my school. I run at least 2 miles every week (all I have time for unfortunately) and do Tai Chi on my weekends. I know that my athletics is SEVERELY weak, is this going to hurt my chances drastically of getting the scholarship?

It's not that I hate being athletic its just that my school only offers basketball and I don't want to be involved in all that awful drama...

Did you explain all this during the interview? Did you explain how the two miles is broken up, if at all? Did you provide your 2 mile run times as evidence of your fitness? I hope so, as having done so might provide some relief. The athletics is an important part of the whole person score. I'm not saying you won't get one, especially since I have no knowledge of your other statistics, but it will definitely be an uphill battle I would think. Your scholarship and leadership qualities are going to need to overcome any weakness in the athletics department.

Work on plan B, just in case. Hopefully it can include enrolling in NROTC somewhere as a college programmer, allowing you to compete for a sideload scholarship while you are in college. My son had to execute just such a plan at his first choice college to eventually land an NROTC MO scholarship. It can be done, if necessary. :thumb:

Well, it's possible. Pretty good stats. Math and science ACT could be higher but they're adequate. You might get one. Make sure you have a good plan B. Texas A&M has some financial benefits for ROTC cadets as I recall. But of course that would require you to be in the Corps of Cadets, but since it's already on your list that must not be an issue.

Georgia is a long way from home. Don't know your financial situation but it might make getting home for Thanksgiving tough. But then, it's also an opportunity to go spend some time at a college/NROTC chum's home.

You ready for these big schools after attending such a small one?
