Rumor is the KP Admissions department is starting to read applications for the Class of 2018. Anyone hear anything on appointments yet?

I haven't. I just got news of my 2nd senatorial nomination a couple of days ago and I still have an interview with my local representative on December 7. It's still to early to offer appointments.

Early appointments

Congrats on your nominations. The KP Admissions office does offer some early appointments for candidates with exceptionally good applications, some recruited athletes, and other candidates they really want to enroll at USMMA.

Here's what the KP Admissions web site says:

Early Notification of Admission
"Highly qualified candidates may receive early notification of their appointment after complete evaluation of their qualifications. All other candidates will be notified of their status on or about late March/early April of the year in which they seek admission."

If your application is complete, you may want to check in with your Admissions Officer to see if you have a shot for Early Admission. In past years, some candidates heard as early as October, but I think with the government shutdown things are backed up this year. This blog has posts from years past where some fortunate candidates were offered principal appointments before Christmas and sometimes even before Thanksgiving.

Nothing yet. But I noticed that my application status was listed as a "hold." Not sure what that means?

I would check with the KP Admissions office to be sure, but I believe it means your application has been reviewed and while they aren't yet offering you an appointment, they definitely are declining one, either. Sometimes a "Hold" means KP has already filled their allotment of candiates for your state, but because it's so early in the process, I would be surprised if that's the case.

Possibly... The number of applicants that come from each state have a big impact on the chances of each candidate from a particular state of getting in. Each state gets a certain amount of slots, and I believe once KP Admissions selects its top candidates for each state, other candidates are put on "hold" and into a national pool of sorts.

Those candidates have to wait it out for the principal candidates from their states to either accept or decline their appointment. If none become available from your state, you then compete with other candidates in the same boat in their states for the slots that some states don't use.

This may or may not be your situation, so I would check with KP Admissions. They are terrific to deal with.

Good luck!

DS just received his LOA today from Kings Point! The excitement here is overwhelming! It is subject to medical qualifications (pending - one minor remedial) and continued excellence in school. So, they are starting to review files. Good luck to all.

Congratulations, and welcome to the roller coaster.

DS received his letter of assurance yesterday. Appointment contingent on getting a nomination and continuing to meet academic standards. He is really excited.

Status changed to Principle last week and just received a FedEx. Cant wait til DS comes home from school to read what's inside!

Status just changed to conditional - does that mean a LOA will be sent out?

From what I remember, it is good but they are waiting for something to green light it. Medical done? Did you get a nomination yet?

Conditional is a good thing, it means they are holding a spot for you pending something gets completed. They can't officially offer a Appointment without a nomination and other things (physical fitness test, etc.). That's why they offer a conditional appointment to say your almost there just complete these remaining things and your in. CONGRATULATIONS!!:smile:

what state?

Congratulations to Basketball, CWM, Hopeful, (think there was one other).

If you don't mind me asking, what state are you from?

DS received a phone call from the soccer coach and also saw online that the status had been updated to Conditional. His MOC interview is Friday and the nomination is the only known hurdle to an appointment.

Facebook pages

It has always been a tradition lately for the parents and candidates of the incoming class of USMMA to have a facebook page for the parents and then one for the candidates.

The parents facebook page is strictly for parents only, below is the link to the parents page: USMMA Class of 2018 Parents--https://www.facebook.com/groups/1434779240077667/

The candidates page is strictly for the candidates coming into the plebe class, below is the candidates page: USMMA Class of 2018--https://www.facebook.com/groups/530690983694390/

Please join the pages as you learn of your (or your DD/DS) appointment to learn information and tips for your experience through the four years at USMMA.

Go Kings Point!
