Once you have finished your entire file, how long will it normally take to hear from admission? I finished everything November 7.

It'll most likely be a couple of months. The deadline isn't until the end of February (I think, someone correct me if I'm wrong). Last year they sent out a group of appointments about 2-3 weeks before the deadline, but I think the majority of candidates, myself included, didn't hear until about March or April. I think the only way you will know sooner is if you have an LOA or you're a recruited athlete.

Thanks for replying. I was referring to the 3Q'd letter or so. Like how long does it take for your completed file to go to the board to be reviewed.

Board

I think the Board meets once a week (Tuesday?). So, your file could go before them anytime (even if not complete). Yet, you may not know it until the envelope shows up after 28FEB14.

A file CANNOT go the the board until it is complete. You thinking you are complete is not the same as actually being complete. Often people think because they sent the SOE request, they are done. Your file is not complete until everything is received and still might require more once it is initially reviewed. Then depending on what checks are required for the qualification review, it could take a couple days or a month to review once it comes up in the queue - you may not be the highest priority. Patience is important, keep working to improve your file through the completion deadline.

Complete

So, the Admissions Board does not vote on a candidate before a LOA is sent out? Some LOAs, go out before an application is complete. If the Admissions Board doesn't vote on LOAs - then who is the decision maker. Just curious.

Everything is complete. I have all green check marks and my admission officer informed that my file was 100% complete.

I believe that once complete, your file is scored by your Admissions Officer then given to another AO to be scored a second time. It is then reviewed by the board to determine qualification. So I would expect it could take several weeks.

At least that is how I understood the process from two different admissions briefings a year ago.

Last year DS' file was complete around the end of October and he received a 3Q letter in mid-December.

An LOA and being Qualified are completely different. Your file does not have to be complete for an LOA (or LOE), though it can help because it strengthens the file.

DS has had a complete file for a few months now. Just sent new ACT scores, which have not yet shown up on the portal ( I expect that will be another week at least). However, his english and reading scores, although they went up a bit, are still low enough that they make me wonder if he is truly academically qualified. Will we just be hanging on wondering that, or can they send "not academically qualified" letters at any point up until they start sending out acceptance letters? His class rank, EC's, leadership, etc are very strong and he is medically and physically qualified.

Last year someone I know that applied to USMA got a letter in the mail that pretty much told him "don't get your hopes up". Not sure if he ever got an official letter saying he was not going to be 3Q'd.

If you believe yourself to be 3Q'd, contact your ALO, or whoever you're working with, and ask them when you will be hearing from USMA about it. I was a bit of a nag on my Maj. because I was really anxious about hearing from USMA. He kind of got the process going, and last week I received my Fully Qualified letter. If you are proactive, they will work with you. It may be annoying, but it lets them know that you are serious about the whole process, and it may get you some of the perks (like receiving letters early) :thumb:.

cadet85, thanks for advice. I emailed my ALO, MAJ Liehaber, and he informed that he can't predict at this time when I will hear from admission. I guess it's time to play the waiting game.

Have you completed EVERYTHING on your file? (all green check marks?)

Cadet85, I have completed everything. All green check marks on my file. I made sure of that.

Just making sure. If you're competitive and you have everything done, you shouldn't have to wait too long. I have an LOE as well, so that might have helped. Don't know your exact situation, but it seems the waiting game it is. Sorry! Good luck though!

Cadet85, I'm active duty. I have a 26 on the ACT but I'm gonna take it in December it see if I can get a higher score. I didn't receive a LOE this year.

You can't compare a soldier's timeline to a high school senior's timeline.

Very Interesting! Obviously I don't need to preach about ACT's. You and I both have heard it all before (My first ACT was a 21 :thumbdown: haha). But, I took my ACT this past October, and I thought I did TERRIBLE. However, I raised my math score and my reading score. The math score REALLY helped. So my advice is just to go in relaxed and fill in those bubbles. (Sorry to rant a little more on ACT even though I said I wouldn't).

The part about you already being active duty will help, I think. I was escorted around campus for a personal tour by a cadet named Sergeant Hayselet (haselet? I don't remember how he spelled his name). He said he just enlisted after high school, and they offered him an appointment just because he had not yet received his college education. He said, "They said it was free, so hey, what the heck." So I personally think active duty soldiers are held in a bit higher regard. I may be wrong, and this is just my personal opinion. But he didn't even try that hard, so maybe, just maybe. :thumb: buff81 is probable a better source of information than I am though. So listen to him (or her haha).
