I received notice of being chosen as a nominee for my congressman(NJ) a few days ago, and an LOA in September.

Just waiting for my congressman to submit his slate and the BFE.

Thank you for being such a supportive community and helping me with all my questions.

Hey a friend of my son's just got an appointment. Sounds like you are at the same place he was. He just received his nomination last weekend, and received his appointment this weekend! There coming!

I just received my nomination as well. Finalizing last components of my application, then just the CFA, interview, and medical exam!

Congrats to all of you. Please remember that the MOCs have until Jan. 31 to submit their slates to USNA. Some do it right after they notify you; others. . . .

USNA can't send your BFE until they receive the slate, so please be patient, hard as it may be.

@usna1985

If DS's portal says that he has recieved nomination from "Senator 2" does that meant the Senator has sent the slate in?

As far as I know, yes. If USNA knows about the nom, it should mean the MOC submitted it. Your DS's BGO will have it on his/her system once it's submitted, although the BGO system could lag CIS.

Once USNA receives the nom, if there is an LOA or principal nom and all else is OK, assume 2-3 weeks to receive the BFE, possibly longer during the holiday season.

My sons friend received his appointment a week after he received his nomination!

That's great. But those who don't see the BFE in a week shouldn't despair.

BFE = Big Fat Envelope ... what your appointment notification goodies come in.

Great stuff!! I'm becoming more and more excited as this process continues. I recently received news about a Principal Nom, and now I just have to complete my CFA and interview.

I'm not expecting it for a while, NJ is supposedly always slow... but I mean, the pressure is off, and thats all that matters. I couldn't be happier. and Good Luck Skelly, those are the easy parts.

Once I hear back with the hopefully good news, Senior Year is going to be quite a bit better.

SAF Acronyms

Skelly66,

Check out TacticalNuke's thread called The Acronym List. You will have to do a search for it because I don't know how to post the link. It has been a great help!

And congrats and good luck with the rest of the process.

Thank you! I'll be sure to check it out.

I'm dead set on USNA right now, but also applying to several other schools and an NROTC scholarship. However, with an acceptance to USNA, I wouldn't have to think too much about the choice. My mom and dad (no prior military) have been great throughout the entire process, and I have several Navy and Marine officers in my extended family, who have also helped immensely. Just trying to figure out the lifestyle change in my head. June 26 is the projected I-Day for this coming year. Could anyone else share their personal experiences/thoughts?

Not trying to dissuade you but it takes a very special person to go to the academy. Remember one thing, if you decide to go the USNA way, then do it. Remember that ROTC will make you an officer same as the USNA. I have a friend of mine that went ROTC 29 years ago, and is now a base commander. He didn't go to USNA. Once your a ensign or 2nd Lt. your promotions will come by job performance and proficiency, whether you went to USNA or ROTC. That being said, it will be the hardest thing you have ever done if you go the USNA way. I look at it like running that mile and you want to get a certain time in. It hurts so bad when your running it. you start having doubts and want to slow down and quit. If you stay the course and finish that mile, you feel like there is nothing you cant do. I look at the Academy like that. It will be sooo hard. You will want to give up and quit. But as the day comes when you graduate and receive your commission, you will know you have made the right choice. Remember if it was easy, everyone would do it. Keep the faith and remember plebe year is the hardest. They take everything from you. So stay strong! Good luck and congratulations.

Thank you for the insight! I've always done very well in a structured environment, and during my high school process, really set my sights on USNA. As you said, I know there will be difficulties to come (if I am fortunate enough to receive an Appointment), but I truly believe it's the right place for me.
