Hey there!

I am currently a freshman in high school.
As of now, I have an undying ambition to go to USNA, but my parents don't know about my decision, and they aren't exactly thrilled about anything involving the military. :frown:
It would be nice to know that I have their support in my decision.
So I'm stuck on how to tell them about this, but in the end, I still want to go to USNA.(and I have a strong feeling that it's not going to change any time soon.)

As I am new to this site, I hope to find out more about USNA and the other service academies here.

Right now, I'm currently in NJROTC, and enrolled in honors classes. I hope to get more tips on getting into the academy in the future!

Same boat

I am in the exact same position as you except USMA and a different age. People here on the forum are really supportive and help!!!! Good luck

Hi! Welcome to the forum!
About the parents -- first, while it would be nice to have their support and encouragement, you don't really need it; it's your life.

Second -- you're only a freshman. There's plenty of time to win them over, and win them over I'm sure you will. Spending time on this forum will probably help you find ways to articulate to your parents why an appointment to USNA is your dream.

Do they support your JROTC activities? If the answer to that is no, what is it they do that shows their lack of support? Do they show support for your other activities and interests?

Thank you!
Although it is my life, the admission process would sure be difficult without their approval.
I sure do hope I can find a way to tell them about why i want to go there.

As for JROTC, its kind of a 50/50 situation. They only want me there because of the discipline that the military has, anything that mentions a career in the military is a NO. I'm pretty sure the main reason why they dont want me in the military is because im a female :/ So far, they do show some support for my sudden interest in sports and taking up swim and cross country, but thats about it... lately ive been trying to do community service within JROTC and theyve told me that im spending too much time on that class and that its a waste of time. :frown:
