Go NAVY, Beat ARMY

Although I am happy with the result, I think they should have run out the clock and not gone for that final touchdown. Not a classy move, in my opinion.
 
Yeah, taking it easy on them would have been more respectful.
 
Agreed....surprised by that move. Seemed a bit bush league. It's not as though they were trying to impress the BCS voters.

Sidebar: Army coach really needs to go...they have to turn that proud program around and that staff isn't going to do it.
 
I didn't see the game but the write up said that Coach N went for the touchdown because it let Reynolds break the record for most points scored in a season that had stood since 1917. There can be debate as to whether it's a good reason, but it is the stated reason.

Not saying I agree with the decision. Having not watched the game, it's hard for me to judge.

I actually hoped Army would win:eek: (shocking, I know), because I want to see the series go back to the competitive state it once enjoyed. I suspect there are a lot of USNA grads who agree with me, even if they don't say so publicly. Beating your arch rival for 12 straight years -- when that rival is Army for whom Navy has the utmost respect -- at some point really isn't fun anymore. And it has the potential to become another Navy-Notre Dame situation of constant defeat for 40+ years which, quite frankly, I found miserable.

Thus, my initial inclination would be to say the last touchdown was a bad move. But, as noted, I didn't see it in the context of the whole game and, IMHO, there is a difference between running a basic play that happens to score and running a play with the sole intent of scoring (i.e., a trick play, a long TD pass, etc.). I'm not in a position to opine on what happened in this game.

While I have no problem with the final TD, that's a silly "reason.". Unless of course Niuamatalolo really thinks that Reynolds will not score any points in the bowl game.
 
It's not Navy's job to stop scoring points. If Army didn't like it, they should've manned up and made a stand.
 
A few months back NHL rookie forward Tomas Hertl of the San Jose Sharks scored four goals in a game. One of those goals was very fancy shot. I think the Sharks went on to win 9-2.

"How dare he do that." was the sentiment of some after the goal.

We talked about in the locker room before one of my games.

If you want to maintain the integrity of the sport, one team must try its best to score and one must do its best to keep that team from scoring. There were five skaters and one goalie on the ice, there to keep Hertl was score ANY goals. They failed.

Don't like the touch down? Army had guys of the field to keep it from happening, but they didn't. What happens to the integrity of the game if one team doesn't "try," for fear of "running up the score?" Mercy? If Army doesn't want to be blown out (keep in mind, I was cheering for them over Navy) then Army needs to do better, not expect Navy to do worse.
 
Usna1985, and others, I too would like to see Army win again (for whatever clout a one-year attendee has, which is probably only ever so slightly greater than zero). The problem is not that Navy is piling on points, because whether they won by one or twenty, those points were earned. The problem is, the Army teams of the last 12 years are too busy making mistakes. I suspect GEN MacArthur himself would take even Navy to task for failing to capitalize on such mistakes of the "enemy," even if only on fields of friendly strife.

Theirs two things that really frustrate me about Army football. One, for as much as football supposedly matters, they completely underpay their coach, not their current coach because he should not be making close to $400,000, but in general, theirs no way, they'll get a half decent coach being as cheap as they are, especially to navy who pays 4 times that. Secondly, one thing that frustrates me is how our current coach tries to make it look like he even cares about winning. That's apparently the reason he calls a timeout with 1 minute left when we're losing by 20. Everyone knows he could care less with literally 3 plays in his entire playbook. I sincerely hope they fire him immediately and he never gets a coaching job outside of mayber high school football.
