USNA Nominations

I had my congressional nomination interview last week and to be honest, it was a fair, but not outstanding interview. It has been about half a year since my somewhat spontaneous decision to apply to USNA, and I am now more seriously considering the academy. I now regret not applying for senatorial nominations because I'm afraid I won't get a congressional one. However, when I had my BGO interview, I was told that because there are so many other Maryland applicants, it IS possible for me to receive an offer of appointment without a nomination if there are spots left open in May or June.
Is this true?

First, there will be no open slots. Second, unless your application is truly stellar, you walk on water academically, throw a football 100 yards with ease, and have lead every sports team in your high school - in which case they'll find a nomination for you, then there is no way to get into an academy without a nomination. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but... Also, being from Maryland you probably have a better chance of getting a nomination on a congressman's slate than the senatorial slates. Your competition for the nomination there is just your district. The competition for the senatorial nomination is state wide.

You may have misread your interview and will perhaps still get a nomination. In any case you should be working on plan B, nomination or not.

Generally the odds favor a candidate receiving a nomination from his/her congressman over a senatorial nom... just toy with the numbers a bit. Did you not file for a VP nom? They really do work; have had two candidates make it via that route. Best wishes.

kinnem, thank you for your help. I have other college plans if I don't get into the academy, and I'll certainly keep my hopes up!

no, I didn't apply for any other nominations, so I suppose I'll just keep hoping until I hear back.
Thank you for your help!

Apply for the VP nom. I also know folks who got in on that one. It doesn't take long.

Got a letter yesterday saying that I didn't get the congressional nomination after all :/

But thank you, I will apply for the VP nomination!

Will I have to interview with anyone for that?

veep nom
