I have had a bad cough/cold the past week and was just prescribed an antibiotic. It lasts five days, and my exam is on Friday. Should I reschedule? Will being on an antibiotic for a cold be a DQ?

On a side note, if I have passed MEPS, will that exam work in lieu of a Dodmerb exam?

Having a cold / being on an antibiotic shouldn't be a DQ since it's a temporary condition, not chronic.

Isn't MEPS for enlisting? You still need to go through the DoDMERB process for the SA and ROTC.

I'd recommend calling the office where your exam is scheduled and asking if its a problem. If so, then reschedule. Seems like the easiest and fastest approach to resolve it. It certainly wouldn't be a DQ.

kinnem,

Good call. I'll ask their office, thanks.

ca2midwestmom,

Okay. Yeah MEPS is for enlisting but the paperwork looks similar.

It shouldn't be a problem, I was on antibiotic medication when I had my exam. Qualified. You should be fine.

Dehydration, which a cold can cause, may lead to elevated protein levels in urine. This is very common among male athletes. My DS had high protein, requiring a remedial. it delayed his contracting.

An internist friend recommended good hydration starting the day before, no working out the day before and a good long night's sleep the night before the test.

Best of luck.

I an NOT a Doctor but - I advise NOT going to the Physical Exam when you are sick. I have no scientific reason for this advice - just common sense.

db11usma,

Good to know, thanks!
