nomination status

I found out that i am the 5th alternate for USAFA nomination from a MOC and on an unranked list of nominees after a principal for another MOC. Does that mean i stil lhave a nomination? How likely is it for a person to get an appointment as a 5th alternate?

Yes, it does mean you still have a nomination. I wouldn't venture to guess about the 5th alternate, but things happen to people including appointments to other academies, scholarships to schools like Harvard and Yale, change of heart, and a zillion other things. You are still in the fight! (But be working on backup plans anyway, which I would say even if you were the second alternate).

How did you figure out how you ranked upon the nominations?

My MOC's method involved ranking from 1-9. They specified in my letter.

If your MOC sent you a list than his method is not unranked, but ranked. Unranked would be submitting the list alphabetically.

As stated you still have a chance before going to the pool.

Candidates 2- 4 could come in via Sen A & B, plus Presidential or ROTC, if the prin declines and they use other sources no. 5 would come in on his slate and not come from the pool.

However, that being said, nobody knows your stats and if the other candidates are on any other slates. That plays into the equation too.

You just have to play the waiting game like the rest of your peers.
