So this morning DS was uploading his new December ACT scores and noticed something new. The section where you can choose what type of file you are uploading (ACT, SAT, transcripts, etc) now has "college acceptance letters" as a choice. Is this new or did he just miss this in the past? He scanned and uploaded all his acceptance letters but really doesn't remember this option from previous uploads.

My DS uploaded his college acceptance forms along with scholarships he received earlier this month and they were approved the same day. I'm not sure if it was always there but it was there at least since the 15th.

I have no clue if it helps but I assume it won't hurt.

Pros & cons of doing this? ... DS has only received acceptances/scholarships so far from #3 on his list of schools (OOS large "state" school in neighboring state) & #6 (large IS "state" school). #1-2 are OOS SMCs; #4 is large OOS "state" school; #5 is OOS private school. All of these have notification dates of March/April (DS did not apply early decision to any -- holding out for USMA or USNA). His AROTC app is board ready for January.

in all honesty I dont think it matters. In my opinion, if it was my DS I would tell him to wait and not upload until he is at #1 or #2. But honestly i think it matters not.

I come from a long line of Scotsmen and Irishmen who are gamblers and (as well as general ne'er do wells) and we play the odds. So my guess would be to wait.

Now regarding your comment about "All of these have notification dates of March/April..." dont take that to heart. My son got deferred to one of his three choices and not notified by the other two a couple days before the deadline for answers from the 1st board. HE (NOT ME!!!!!) called them all (admissions and PMS) and said, 'hey I know your deadline isnt until April but I dont want to take a gamble on choosing a school that i didnt get into...."

He got overnight-ed an acceptance letter the next day by one school (months before the deadline) and emailed an acceptance from another. The third school does not get involved with admissions and admissions didnt care.

Thanks Vista123 -- that was my thought too.

Ha ha -- we could be related in that respect!

Re. the March/April notification dates -- my only hope is that we're not waiting until the last minute for ALL notifications -- SAs, ROTC scholarships, or college admissions. I'd be happy if they start trickling in, but the thought of not knowing until almost graduation will turn me grey!

In the case of my DS he applied EA to all the schools on his list. He was accepted to all of them except for Georgia Tech which he will get an answer for on Jan. 4th.

We figured it may not help by sending them in but figured it couldn't hurt. It didn't cost anything to upload them so just went ahead and did it.

That was the case with my DS as well. He has been accepted into all but 1 (decision not out yet) of his choices so he uploaded them all.

I don't think DS has been out on his application portal for quite some time since he was board ready for the 1st board (didn't get an award offer on that board), so he wouldn't be aware of this change. Since he has already been boarded, do you think he should still go ahead and upload his acceptance letters? Or do you think this is primarily for applicants that started a bit later in the game? So far, he has been accepted to 3 out the 4 schools he applied to. The 4th school doesn't give offers of admission until Feb. 14th --Valentine's Day, no less!

My DS was also board ready at the 1st board and did not receive an offer then either. We thought maybe since this is a new option to upload acceptance letters it couldn't hurt to do so (he said "why would they put that option if they didn't want them" that made sense to me as well). His new ACT scores and all his acceptance letters were submitted this morning and they are all showing up with green check marks approved. He was in a good situation that he had been accepted into his top 4 schools so it wasn't a hard decision to make.

This seems like it could be a nice addition to the application process, CC may now be able to match scholarships to schools the applicant has been accepted. May cut down on some transfer requests.

Of course it could cause issues with those that have yet to receive admission letters.

Georgia Mom- thanks for the info! This is exactly what I love about this forum! DS would never have noticed the change, as he had no new info to add. He added his acceptance letters and letters of recommendation. He hadn't finished his paperwork in time for the first board so we are really hoping to hear good news from the January meeting!! Best wishes to ALL on the 6th! :)

My son's application is boarded for the next review in January and has not downloaded any of the schools he has been accepted to. However, he has been contacted by four of the seven ROTC units he put on his list, three inwhich he has already been accepted to. They wished him luck on the scholarship and invited him to arrange for a visit. I hope this is a good sign for his future. I guess time will tell.
