Congrats on Service, but I won't Hire You

Not sure how you are homeless on a $40,000/year pension, and free healthcare. That's above the poverty line.

I've got dyslexia, that's not the reason you don't get jobs on online job boards. You don't get jobs on online job boards because there are 300 other guys applying for that one position, with little or no interest in actually taking the job.

You don't complete three graduate degrees and then blame having issues with online applications on dyslexia. Sorry.

And he isn't just a veteran who retired and couldn't find a job. He worked for defense contractors. But like many contracts, you may be sent packing if there is a slowdown in the industry (I have old, retired co-workers who were just let go by Booz Allen).

Sequestration is a BIG issue for people looking for federal work, or contract work. But this colonel's big issue, in my opinion, is to realize he's no longer "a military guy." Once you get over that thinking, you start to see more doors, and some of those doors MAY open.

Some of what he's facing may be covered in the article I posted. Maybe he's violating some of the topics covered in the article. My opinion, more may be going on that the article hits on.

Several things, but yes that an O6 didn't plan ahead for retirement, can't live on $40k/yr (pension) and find a part-time job to supplement it, and chooses to live in his car while his sons attend college on his dime. I agree there is probably more to the story that isn't told here. Guess I should have said "the choices he made are sad."

Same reasons someone without military experience doesn't get hired.

I like the long resume reason. I have seen internship applicant resumes that are longer than mine.

My resume sits at 2 pages. As I add more, I move dated info out.

Do you think the whole "fit everything on one page" notion is defunct now? I got mine to one page because my experience is limited but later on I could see problems. Every career course or resume builder seminar always stress one page for some reason....

Yeah, I have no idea how I could fit it onto one page, without condensing so much that I would really lose substance. People I see say keep it to two.

They do have to be able to read it. You can cram too much onto one page with size 2 font, and I'm not sure how great the results would be.

Now there are professions that are very OK with long CV's. I don't need a long CV as much as a fairly straight forward resume.

It's not the size that matters; it's the content.

(This is not a gutter post. Get your mind out of the gutter.)
