Just putting this out there- but what happens if...

You are triple qualified, you have stacked ACT and SAT scores, you were NOT sent a LOE, that whole bit, but...

You can't get a nomination. Say you applied to your congressman, who nominated you to something else, and you applied to your senators, only one of whom interviewed you, and consequently did not nominate you. You also applied to the VP, but for this scenario, he didn't nominate you, either. If you have a really competitive record, but fail to get nominated, what happens? Is it off to MAPS with you?

Right. It's my understanding that if you are academically qualified you will not be attending MAPS. No nomination, no appointment. Hate to be the bearer of bad news, but it is what it is.
 
Not a USMA applicant; USAFA and USCGA for me...but isn't there always the possibility (however so slight) of a superintendent nomination?
 
LITS, you got me! I used to be really into West Point, but I realized, as a career, I'd rather be in the AF or CG. Thought about what I'd rather be doing, as opposed to a school.

So MAPS doesn't want academically achieving candidates? And yes, I do have alternate plans....
 
That's not the mission of USMAPS. However, you might possibly be offered an opportunity to attend a civilian prep school via an AOG scholarship (places like MMI, etc).
 
Apply to prep schools. If that's what you really want, apply to a prep school. You can go to a prep school without a scholarship. I know a friend who did that for USAFA this year and is awaiting EA status. If it's what you really want, reapply! Don't give up. :)
 
Mlomtevas, it appears you applied to another service academy and were nominated to that academy? If West Point was your first choice, you probably should have voiced that in your MOC interview. Best of luck to you!
 
No nomination, no SA. Unless you meet some in demand class composition goal, you won't get a Supt's nom. Chances are, you'd know that by now.

3Q means no USMAPS consideration either. Can't go if you are academically qualified.

3Q with no nom means not likely for an AOG Civil Prep offer. The RC has limited spots and usually uses them for his top candidates that don't get offers that had noms and were fully qualified. That may sound strange, but:
1) RC wonders why you have no nom: a) decided too late that you wanted to go to a SA, b) can't follow instructions to apply for one, and/or c) you picked another academy over WP.
2) RC has FFR reps lobbying them to get their favorite individuals in.
3) RC likely has dozens of other candidates that are about to get TWE that are asking about Civil Prep.
Seeing all that, you better have a good case and articulate it concisely to your RC why they should consider you.

Options: reapplying from a prep school versus a normal college. There is no real difference in your admission chances, it is all about your performance in that environment. The academics tend to be better at a normal college, but most ROTC programs won't prepare you for Beast like a prep school will. Choice is yours, but dollar wise, you are probably best off at State U and participating in ROTC. Most of the prep schools get pretty pricey if you aren't on scholarship.
 
Letter to SUPE

A last ditch effort is to write a direct letter to the SUPE. He will read it and probably disregard. However, it never hurts. I got at least one job by sending a letter to a GO and another job by telling a guy to his face why I was the best thing since sliced bread. Still need to explain why you didn't get a NOM in any other way.
 
The purpose of MAPS is to help kids who are not fully academically ready so, I don't see why someone who is academically qualified would be a candidate.

As an alternative, the local FFR mentioned this program run by the the West Point Alumni Association called the West Point Preparatory Scholarship Program which may fit. . .

I think you people misunderstood me. Although I may or may not have gotten a nomination for WP, I wouldn't know until the end of the month.

My question was more of a reference type of deal for people with a similar situation to what I described in the original post.

Also, your acronyms are absolutely bewildering.

And should you get an appointment, wait until you talk to your family and they keep asking you "what is that?" and "what does that mean?" As a parent, I've learned more acronyms about things I know little about, than I ever thought possible.
