Okay so I completed everything for my application a month or two ago, but my liaison officer failed to submit his evaluation of me during our interview. I have called him and emailed him MULTIPLE times, and each time he says he will do it, BUT he STILL hasn't done it yet. Is there anyway I can contact admissions and let them know about this?! It seems ridiculous that he continues to put this off even though I have expressed to him how important it is to me that I complete my application. And this is the ONLY part of my application that is NOT complete.

If this has continued for a while go to your portal and call the number of your admissions councilor out at USAFA! The admissions office is in M-F from 7:30 AM to 4:30 PM MST. They are able to access your file and see if there is anything gridlocking your file, and they can also put a footnote on your application so that the boards don't disqualify you for something out of your control. I had them do this for me for a grade I had while in college that was still coming down the pipe, and ended up finding out I was qualified along the way  good luck!

Okay...

A couple of things that you should consider. While I totally applaud that you completed your package early; how I wish all candidates were like that, you didn't mention if you knew when your AF Form 4060 (ALO Evaluation of Candidate) is due? Is it past due or not due yet?

This is key.

I have 9 candidates I am currently working; and all of them are in various stages of completion. Several are like you: complete!!! And only a couple of them have completed evaluations. Several don't and have been complete for a while, I just have other evaluations that are higher priority (due date, etc.) that I am working. I'm sure they're wondering "Gee...when will he get this done?!" Just like you.

But I work on a time schedule NOT to the candidates plan, but to mine. And I daresay most ALO's are similar...we work on the schedule to ensure the candidates file is AS COMPLETE AS WE CAN MAKE IT before we push the "submit" button on the 4060. We want that file to be the BEST that can be delivered! I wait...until the very last moment I can...getting just another tidbit of information, a little better wording on a description bullet statement, whatever I can to help my candidate. So if I'm submitting the form on the very day it's due...I'm completely okay with that!

The candidate meanwhile...may be tearing their hair out!!

Now to be fair...I tell my candidates this up front...they know what to expect. Your ALO should have done this as well, IMHO, and if he/she didn't...I think that's doing you a disservice IF you've asked more than a couple of times about the evaluation and all you've heard is "I'll get it done."

Bottom line: IF you completed your package in November...and the evaluation hasn't been done yet...I'm going to "guess" that it's late! Yes, call your counselor and ask politely: "Have you heard anything from ALO XXYY? I see my evaluation hasn't been submitted; we interviewed on YYYY date...is there something I should be doing?" This is being proactive.

Trust me: if the evaluation is LATE...it's showing up in BOLD RED LETTERS on the first screen the ALO sees when they sign on to the ALO website! And their commander knows...and USAFA knows...and being late is NOT something USAFA likes to see...
(This is what it actually looks like: You have 1 Form(s) 4060 that are LATE!)

So...if you completed in early/mid December...your 4060 may not be due yet and your ALO may be working higher priorities...be patient.

I hope this helps...a little?

Good info! Thanks for that. But, he never told me about this, and His exact response to my email a week ago was, "I'll get it done." He hasn't done a very good job keeping in contact anyways even when I leave messages through email and on his phone. When I called admissions (a person NEVER answers, it always goes to a voicemail), I have left multiple messages, to no avail. It this point I am just angry with him because he seems really careless. Acts like this stuff isn't important, doesn't treat it like it is a serious situation. And his failure to execute after promising me he would really upsets me. Just doesn't seem interested in helping. :frown:

You can call a different admissions counselor if yours doesn't respond..they'll all work with you. My admissions counselor never responded to anything..phone calls, emails, etc. When I visited the academy with the DVP my admissions officer wasn't there so I got to talk to different counselor. She gave me her business card and I've contacted her several times. She's been very helpful. If you want her contact information, send me a PM.

And my ALO isn't helpful either. He only responded just enough times to schedule the interview and ignored all other questions and emails. A good admissions counselor should be able to help you out.

Another thing to remember, though not what you are going to want to hear, is that being an ALO is probably not his primary job. My son's ALO is a Reserve pilot, he is often gone and hard to reach. When he is stateside he is responsive. Not excusing your ALO's behavior, he just may have many irons in the fire. ALO's are all volunteers.

I don't like the tone of some of these posts.

There are things behind the scenes...you (and this may surprise you...) might NOT be the number one priority for academy admissions...you might be # 14,000 of 14,000.

The large group of folks who work the academy admissions process takes their job seriously, and there is a chain of command above them making sure things are done properly.

Something like this happened to me, when I was submitting my application during the government shutdown time period. For some reason the computers kicked my ALO's Eval out of the system, and my Admissions counselor and my ALO had to work together to fix the problem and submit the Eval.

My suggestion is, if you submitted during that time period talk to both your ALO and Admissions counselor about if it is showing up. If it's not, see if they can contact each other to figure out the problem.

Very Well said Buff.

I know for most applicants, to them, the application process and finding out if they will receive an appointment, is the highest priority. Unfortunately, they don't want to accept the fact that there are literally THOUSANDS of applicants being looked at, interviewed, reviewed, etc...

While many ALO's go above and beyond to help their applicants, ALO's aren't your personal college counselor. The process is totally the applicants responsibility. As Flieger mentioned, we have HARD DEADLINES to meet when it comes to doing your interview and submitting the 4060. And depending on how many applicants/4060 we have to do, and the deadlines for each, maybe yours isn't as pressing as someone else. But one thing is for sure. Once your application is completed, a FIRM Due Date will be set for your ALO to complete the 4060; and s/he will do it by then.

Also, as has been said, being an ALO is not a person's primary job. Most have real jobs they have to do every day too. ALO's aren't forced to do this job. They are volunteers and they want to do this.

You are free to ask questions of the admissions counselors. They will get back with you. It might take time. As for ALO's; the only thing they are truly required to do, is to interview you and do the 4060 form. Forums like this have made the application process easier for applicants who visit here, compared to those who simply apply on their own and don't visit the forums. But the forums have also SPOILED many people because they come to believe that just because ALO's like Flieger are heavily active with their applicant's progress, and they are very active on this forum, that all ALO's should be. This simply isn't the way it is.

If you have a serious pressing question, and your ALO doesn't seem to be able or available to help; then contact your admissions counselor. But don't believe that because your ALO isn't as involved as someone like Flieger, that they don't care or aren't taking their job seriously. You're probably expecting more from your ALO than they have time to give. Compared to someone like Flieger.

For what it's worth. MOST highly sought after Universities have alumni scattered across the country to perform interviews for their universities. Similar to ALO's. They too pretty much answer basic questions, interview you, and fill out a form for the university. Again; this forum and dedicated ALO's like Flieger have made many applicants envious when their ALO isn't as involved. But again I said; your ALO most likely does take their duty seriously. You're just not the only one.

Look I understand all of the stuff behind the scenes stuff. I am aware of the numbers and how hard it must be working a job and the Liaison position, but he never told me any of that deadline stuff, so you all should be able to understand why I am mad when I send him multiple emails about this subject with only one response of "I'll get it done". I had no information about ANY of that because he didn't give me a heads up - so I had good reason to be mad. The thing I am really worried about is my file NOT going in front of the admissions board because he hasn't finished my file yet. This is my real question - Can my file go in front of the board even though he hasn't submitted my evaluation yet?

Can my file go in front of the board even though he hasn't submitted my evaluation yet?

No. Your file must be 100% complete for the board to view it, and it will not be complete until the eval has been certified.

I was in the same situation as you were earlier. My ALO said that he would complete it and for me not to worry about it, but of course I worried. Was he not aware of the deadline? Had he forgotten about me? Should I call or send an email to him just to check and remind him? Why was I not his number one priority? He said he had submitted it but me, in all of my infinite wisdom, not seeing it uploaded, didn't think he had. So after a month and a half of checking my portal over and over again each day to see if it had been uploaded, I decided to call my counselor to ask if it had been received. It had been submitted exactly when he said he had submitted it, and they were just taking a long time to certify it. I saw it uploaded during the next few days.

The lesson from this? Always trust your ALO. If they say they will accomplish something, they will. ALOs do not get to where they are because they miss deadlines. As someone who has been in your shoes, I know and understand exactly how you are feeling. But remember that it will get done, your file will be reviewed, and if qualified, you will receive an appointment to USAFA. The time the eval is submitted will not impact your application in any way. Good luck! :thumb:

Thanks for the really helpful advice man (or woman? lol). Although he did say he hasn't submitted it, this does put me at ease a little more. Thanks! :thumb:

Happy to help! A little bit of a timeline for further info:

We did the interview mid-late September, and he said he submitted it mid October. The deadline for Early Action for the ALO evals to be submitted was Nov 1st. Nov 1st came and went and still the ALO EVAL MISSING appeared on my screen. So I began to get nervous, but my ALO said that he had already submitted it and not to worry about it, that he would take care of it. So November passes, and I'm still pretty nervous. I decided to call my counselor at the Academy in December to ask if it had been received, and he said yupp, they had received it back in October, and that it wasn't appearing on my portal because they had to certify it. Everything had been received in time for early action, so I was still eligible for EA. My application finally was complete on my portal on Dec 17th.

So almost two months from the time it was submitted until it showed up on my portal. The wait is killer, but just hang in and everything will get taken care of!

Oh and man* haha
