If accepted ... How will candidates be notified, MOC, counselor, ALO, portal or via mail?

Hi Nervous,

There is no hard and fast rule. Some candidates find out by seeing it on their portal first, some receive the TWE (thin white envelope), in rarer cases the ALO might notify the candidate, and rarer still occasionally MOC's will notify the candidate (more common for Principal nominations).

But what I can tell you, is no matter how your family finds out, it will the be the best!

^^^^^ ... What MedB said!!! Our DD found out when the BFE arrived. Needless to say, a great day!

As said, you never know. My son received an early appointment in 2007. His online changed and said appointment offered. That was the end of October. He contacted his alo who heard nothing of it. My sources didn't know anything official either. A week later, he received the bfe.

On the other hand, the same cycle, others in our state found out from their moc or from their alo. You never know.

How does one know if they have a principal nomination? Is it designated so on the portal?

I have a principle nom and mine just says "Received". Maybe it is different for others, though my congressman's office notified me.

Thanks for the quick reply.

Our dd was called into work early, she works for the moc, and got it from the moc. She didn't expect to hear until much later. It was a great day. But she really kept it quiet from school and didn't post anything on the boards. She does not want to bring any attention to herself. She has been on TV and a lot in the newspapers locally and felt she wanted to keep this to the family.

What happened to me was i was accepted, and my portal did not reflect that change for a week. This gave my MOC time to contact me and let me know I was accepted. It depends on the MOC, but sometimes a good ALO or MOC will know as much as a week before you do.

You do also get notified in the mail (mailed out the day you are appointed, can arrive before the 1 week in the portal, like mine did) as well as on your portal.

But that's just what I was told.

I got accepted in December, and I found out when my portal stated "Appointment Offered".
I actually called my ALO before he called me as I don't think his side updated yet.

One interesting thing to note was that I got called by one of my senators notifying me of my third nomination, after I was already accepted...

Our MOC called this afternoon while DD was at school to congratulate her on her appointment!!! Said her portal would not change until next week. Happy day, her bff also found out she received her appointment to USCGA today too. So proud of both of these girls :)
