To make amends for a few MMI AoG SAP centric discussions - thought I would start a thread for all Candidates or parents of candidates sponsored or unsponsored currently enrolled in an SAP program as we are all entering the waiting game! Just wanted to see how your program is going and how you all are progressing. Anyone receive official notification of appointment to your Service Academy of choice? Was this year worth it? Best of luck to all!

My DS is AF SAP sponsored at MMI. They were told they thought they'd meet the February USAFA Board - I hope that's the case - really don't want to wait until May again! It has definitely been a long road. I think the year so far has been worth it no matter what the outcome. He's learned a lot, grown a lot and has made a lot of lasting friendships. Good luck to all - I hope we see all SAPs in all branches on the 'Official Appointment' threads!!

Falcon Scholarships....

Taking a guess your DS is a Falcon, which is very cool, he'll get a lot of cool recognition for that. For what ever reason, Falcons are the last to know when the offer roll out. I guess maybe they already factor them in and then fill out the rest of the class composition. But it may take awhile.

But it is coming!!

Yes a Falcon. I heard they found out in February last year but not until May the year before. Fingers crossed for another February (but I won't hold my breath lol)!

Hi Tug,

I think the Coasties are generally last. My son was at MMI last year in the Scholars program. A very few(a couple maybe) got full appointments about mid spring semester. A number got them a couple weeks before end of semester SAP convocation (DS among them, and there was a big sigh of relief there and at home) but a lot did not know until the day of the Convocation (and SAPs leave campus the next day). Even the staff told us when we visited in that fall semester that the Coasties were always last to hear. CGA kept the pressure on.

True I don't know when the Falcons heard last spring.

West Point AOG guys (and there were a lot) mostly heard in February.

Checkin in....So very patiently waiting. BTW, DS is SAP at MMI as well. Nice thread Jim.

OK >> First Log In and Reply on the Service Academy Forum website. Have been simply viewing for about a year and ready to join the discussions. My DS is an AOG SAP at MMI also. It is nice to see other members of this forum having the same angst while waiting/hoping/planning for the BFE. MY DS is not very forthcoming with information, like most of our DS's and DD's. I will let others know when I know. >>> So hear goes

Good to hear from you Rockets and thanks for joining the discussion. I personally forgot how it felt last year when we were at this stage in the game but it is good to know our dd's and ds's are in a great progam and a few months away from the service academys! Looking forward to convocation in Marion in May and R day in July!

Planning-SAP Year

As JWP indicated > Planning for 5/7 MMI Convocation and 7/2 West Point R-Day, we have booked hotel room for 8/16 A-Day. Our R-Day hotel (Holiday Inn Express-Fort Montgomery) is already full for A-Day. We then booked Hampton Inn-Woodbury for West Point 8/16 A Day.
DS has indicated that he is glad he had the SAP year and prefers it to direct admission from high school. He feels much more prepared.

Spoke with DS, who is at MMI, on Friday evening. He indicated that his West Point profile is now fully updated with all his information. He has received Congressional Representative nomination, but has not heard from either Senator. He is also 3Q'd (I've picked up on that lingo) Right now it is the keeping up the grades and staying in shape routine, and waiting to hear sometime in the next month.

Hey Rockets...heard the same from my DS. Hoping to hear some good news very soon! Would be great if they let all the AoG students know at the same time but not really sure how they will get notified...

AOG

Good Point JWP on the notification of the MMI AOG's. It would be great if they all heard at the same time >> Especially since there is high success rate and it would be difficult for some to hear and others to continue the waiting game. Any idea if the BFE goes to the "applicant" at their school address or to their home address. You (JWP) and WeinerDog seem to be quite up to date on details. My son is Luke B. and from the threads I am thinking your sons are David P and Collin W

I agree! I think they should all find out at the same time. I asked my ds if he knew where the BFE would be sent too and he didnt know. I wonder if there is a way to find out?

Of course, I remember you! Yea, Collin is my son and Dave is JWP's. Collins district has yet to release their slates. Though he has an ROTCS nom, he is till really wanting his local Congressman. Hoping that doesn't make him wait for a BFE. In regards to the BFE's, I am quite sure they will go to the home and not the school. However, I could be wrong.

When my DS went to MMI, they did not find out all at once, USMA left the communication to each cadets' own MOC. He got his notice in mid Jan (a few years back) and others did not find out for many weeks later (this was back when rolling admissions was the process) and it seemed like there were 3 or 4 "waves" of appointments being offered. His BFE was mailed to his home address, we had to ship it to him at MMI, but emailed him a photo we took of the unopened package (did not want to take away the pleasure of him opening it himself and being the first one to see/touch it).

So if things have not changed that much, it would not surprise me if there was not a uniform announcement to everyone at MMI, that being said since USMA is no longer doing rolling admissions, I could easily speculate that a bulk of the notifications might be at the same time so it might seem as if they were coordinated and I would still expect that USMA would at least offer the MOC to make the direct communication.

Just my hunch.

I agree with your hunch. Unfortunately for my DS, his MOC has yet to release his slate. He waits until the very last day. So, I am assuming some cadets may receive their BFE's prior to my DS.

In regards to the BFE...I will absolutely overnight it to him. After I roll around the front yard with for an hour or so.

Thanks for the info RLTW! Will also send BFE directly to DS upon arrival...after a similar form of celebration much like WD's! Here's to a speedy release of the next wave of BFE's!

My DS is AoG SAP at MMI. He received his congressional nomination a few weeks ago. I read on one of the threads the next big wave of BFE's would be at the end of February. Good luck to all!
