I talked to my Liaison officer today, and he said that 374 appointments have gone out so far, and that I was one of three for the state if Alabama! Interesting stats. Just thought I would share.

Very interesting - I never knew Liaison officers had access to information like this but thanks for sharing! I'm surprised to see 374 appointments have already gone out, I was expecting a much smaller number.

I'm assuming (yes I know, assuming!) that these are candidates with LOE's/LOA's because he told my I was only 1 of 3 in Alabama to receive A LOE way back in November or something like that. So I assume that that number is actually around the mark of LOE/LOA's that went out if that is the case (again, I am only assuming!!!).

Also, he knew before my MOC (which wasn't surprised about), but he coordinated with the congressman's office to get them my correct contact info and what not so He could call me. So my LO knew before and had to wait to congratulate me (which he said was aggravating to have to wait for haha). Anyways, interesting info he had for me.

Perhaps your assumption is true (I can offer no definitive statement either way). But I do personally know a candidate that received an LOE and was not appointed on the first "wave". I think I've seen a few parents on here sharing similar stories.

I saw somewhere on this forum too that someone hadn't received an LOE or LOA and got an appointment a few days ago. So maybe it's not that LOE or LOA recipients were notified first, rather the most highly qualified in their districts (because most of them tend to have LOAs or LOEs but not all).

Correct, the two that I know of, one from Texas and one from Oregon, got the appointments this week, but never got an LOE or LOA. Both were National Guard, so not sure if that played into it or not?

Interesting info! It would seem that most are highly qualified like you both said. You know what they say about assumptions. Haha

I received an LOE and did not receive an appointment in this first wave. But I think this may be due to admissions accidentally erasing my name from the nomination list. I had to have the congresswomen's office call and tell them that they had made a mistake.

I posted this in another thread entitled, "Vacancy Winners", but West Point stated on the Westpoint admissions page that people being notified this week are vacancy winners. How this all plays out as far as LOE/LOA ect., I don't have a clue. My guess (and I hate to guess here) is that even with an LOA or LOE, you may not be the #1 on your MOC slate. So, if there is a common denominator in the appointments this week, I have to go with what is being posted publicly by West Point.

Wow. What a rare mistake!!! Crazy! But that sounds like a serious issue that was most likely the problem. I would think.

Well Jeff, that is what I meant. Vacancy winner but ones with LOE/LOA's. And some not really. General very qualified and highly competitive candidates that were vacancy winners.

A little off topic, but has anyone been notified of an appointment via the online portal yet? I thought maybe that was what the shutdown of the portal was for a few hours ago but it seems that nothing has changed... at least for me.

I went hunting through last year's threads and found that notification on the portal was seen under the Application Overview tab and then under the box that says any manually processed items may take 3 weeks for processing. It makes more sense to me for them to put it under the Official Correspondence on the home screen to me.

Principal nominations are another reason appointments are going out, as in my case.

+1 Jayceguy

Same with me! And have you got an update on your portal yet?

I know your FFR very well! You got one of the best!

Y'all don't need to overthink this LOE/LOA thing too much.
They are 2 very different creatures. LOA - WP commits to give you an appointment if you meet xyz conditions. LOE - WP (at that date) thinks you are a very good candidate (you've met certain thresholds) and wants to encourage you to keep WP on your radar screen. LOEs are to encourage the candidate without any commitment by WP to offer an appointment.

The appointments gong out this week are being given to those that have won a vacancy (either MOC or service-connected) or if they have a LOA + a nom (does not need to be a vacancy winner).
There are probably some without LOEs that are in that 374 number of appointments that went out this week. If you are 3'd and the clear cut vacancy winner, then you will get an appointment - LOE or not.
Some LOEs are not going to hear anything now as they may not be the vacancy winner - either because
a) the vacancy winner can't be determined yet (MOC hasn't turned in their slate or an incomplete application, or there is a DoDMERB issue or a CFA issue, etc) or
b) they are not the top of the slate by WCS on a competitive slate or are not the P-nom on a ranked slate.
Some LOAs may not hear now bc their MOCs have not submitted their slates yet.

All that to say - DO NOT BE DISCOURAGED if you have a LOE or LOA or neither and are not in this first wave. These are the appointments that are clear cut. It does not mean that you are any less competitive. Not all MOC slates are in. Not all applications are complete. Not all remedials/wavers have been resolved. Not all files have been qualified. It will all become clearer by 31 Jan - the MOC deadline to submit their slate(s). Clearer yet by 28 FEB - the application deadline.

Many more of you will hear. It's the wait game now. I look forward to seeing more names on the appointment list! :thumb:

Looked for it there, not there yet.

Nope, its still showing the portal will be down from 1630 to 1900. I don't think they went in and did anything to be honest.

Also, a very interesting note, my Liaison Officer mentioned a "button" on my portal I could push to accept the offer of appointment. I emailed him back and said I had not seen anything like it or like the BFE notification. So keep an eye out I guess?

He definitely is one of the best! Great guy and I was happy to work with such a helpful person throughout the difficult process.

Nothing is going to appear on the portals until after the 72 hour window.
WP wants to give the MOCs the first opportunity to tell the candidate the good news.
After the 72 hours, the FFR can tell the candidate and it can then be put on the portal.
