Hey guys,

I thought I'd just share a story from when I met with a West Point sophomore who was actually featured in Business Insider as one of the most amazing cadets or something like that.

She is an Asian female from California, and she completed her application February 20, 8 days before the deadline, hearing back from West Point two weeks later. She had okay grades, definitely not the top of her class, and played only volleyball. Her SAT scores were average for our area.

Hopefully that mitigates some fear on this board :)

Funny how we read things differently. I didn't read it as painting her as anything, only as relating facts he had to get directly from her. In either case, what will be will be.

Not at all!

Jinny is far from mediocre! I'm simply saying that in her high school years, she could be considered an average applicant :) I had the chance to meet and talk with her for over 2 hours, and she is definitely excelling at West Point.

I was wowed initially when I met her (especially after reading the Business Insider article) but she reassured me that average students, even those who finish the application late, do get appointed to the academy. Sorry for any misinformation!

My guess is that she was very humble when talking to you. Being fluent in three languages and training with an elite volleyball team in a foreign country, then being recruited for college volleyball, are definitely not "average" activities of the average high schooler. She sounds like an amazing young person, as do the others profiled in this article, as do a lot of the candidates on this forum.
