My DS received his nomination certificate this weekend from our congressman. On his certificate it stated on the occasion of your "appointment" to the U. S. Naval Academy. Two West Point candidates' certificates read "nomination". Is this unique wording for the different academies? Or is there a difference between nomination or appointment?

Did he receive a Principal nomination? Does he have a LOA? Never heard of a MOC giving a nomination certificate out -- usually it's a phone call and/or form letter stating the type of nomination.

Big difference between nomination and appointment. You need a nomination to get an appointment. No nom - no appointment. An appointment is the SA's official offer for you to attend the SA.

He received a call from MOC and a letter but it did not state he was a principal nomination. He has not received a LOA.

Either way, it is good news! But I do think that you should read this post from the USAFA forum. The poster's DS received a letter of nomination and a certificate congratulating him on his appointment. They called the MOC's office and confirmed that the certificate mistakenly said APPOINTMENT instaed of NOMINATION. I would give your MOC's office a call so that they may clear this up.

In either case, congratulations are in order. Be it a nomination or an appointment, both are tremendous accomplishments!

Yikes! My DS received his BFE a few weeks later so hopefully the OP will get good news.
