Hi all, my brother just received his appointment to Kings Point. I couldn't be more proud of him. I was searching through usmma.edu and couldn't find any good information on Indoc/plebe summer/Induction Day/Recognition Day or whatever KP calls it. The website needs a serious update.

Is there an Induction Day? I would imagine so, but is it something family usually attends? At USNA it's a huge deal. I'm trying to schedule my summer leave around it. There's a personal swearing-in ceremony at Navy, where a family member swears in the new plebe. Makes for great photos and memories. Does something like this exist at USMMA? Can someone give me more insight into USMMA's summer training program(its called Indoc?), I-day, and parents weekend (if it exists?). How long is it?

Also, what are KP mids classified as? Are they actually "sworn in" to the military? How much is the monthly stipend? Thanks in advance.

Congrats to your brother! Indoc is at the beginning of July, but I can't find a specific date either. Last year it July 2; for my son (class of 2013) it was July 9. Plebe candidates are expected to report around 0730; once they enter O'Hara Hall, they will not have further contact with family members. Family can stay on campus until lunch muster, but then must leave. There is no swearing-in ceremony at Indoc; that doesn't take place until Acceptance Day/Parents Weekend in September.

Indoc is a very intensive training program, lasting 2+ weeks. Physical training, regimental training, waterfront training. If it's the same as when DS went through it, plebes will have no contact with family until the second weekend, when they will be allowed a very brief phone call (often you can hear an upperclass mid counting down in the background).

Acceptance Day takes place on Parents' Weekend in September. At this time the plebe candidates take their oaths, become plebes, and are sworn in as midshipmen in the Navy Reserve. If it's feasible for you to attend an event, this is the one. KP does not have a monthly stipend, but mids do get paid for their Sea Year duty.

Hope this helps!

At the very bottom of the front page of the USMMA website, there is a link to Reporting Instructions from last year. Lots of basic information that will change a little bit each year, including dates.

Thanks for the information, it definitely helps. Which weekend in September is parents weekend? I foresee a conflict between 2/C parents weekend at Navy and parents weekend at Kings Point.

Shawn - It varies, I think depending on the football schedule (there will be a home game for PW). My son's was Labor Day weekend, but other classes have gone to the second weekend in September.

INDOC begins July 2

1. Congrats to your brother. :wiggle:
2. Indoc begins July 2nd ((Regimental Calendar states; WEDNESDAY 02 JLY
INDOCTRINATION - Class of 2018 reports 0700-0830 (tentative date and subject to change) ))
3. I do not think the 2014-15 Reg. Calendar has not been posted yet... but most likely Parents Weekend will be the weekend AFTER Labor Day weekend... thus your parents (family) needs to be out there by the evening on Thurs. Sept 11th-- and stay until Sunday Sept 14th. That is not "set in stone" and you will need to refer to the calendar when it is posted.
4. Please tell me what state you are from?

Kind Regards and Congrats to your brother! You've got quite an accomplished family there! :thumb:

Thanks so much! The weekend after labor day would work out great for both of us, since Navy doesn't have a home football game till the weekend after that (and that's when Navy's parents weekend is).

We're from Texas. Unfortunately KP parent's weekend looks like it's the ONE weekend that Navy will be playing 2 hours away from my house. And I won't have any family to go home to. Hahaha  But I'll be keeping a lookout for the 14-15 calendar. Thanks again!
