Hey all, I recently logged into my AROTC application and found out I won a AROTC to 3 of my colleges, and I'm trying to figure out how much tuition assistance I'll be recieving from it, and the details of it. They said I'd recieve an letter in the mail with more details about it in 7-10 days, but it's been more than 2 weeks and still no letter. Is there any way to figure out what type of scholarship I was awarded?

Go to the "File Upload" tab on the application portal (not the "Status Update" site) and you will see a document probably categorized as "Other" which will be titled something like, "last four digits of SS#, Last Name, Winner Letter." If you click on it, it will tell you whether the scholarship is for 3 years or 4 years, it should say it is "Full Tuition," and it will list which schools it is good at.

Also, FYI...none of the 2nd Board winners of which I am aware have received the actual packet in the mail yet.

Good luck!:thumb:

Thanks! I just looked at it and I got the full tuition to all of my schools! This is the best!

You got a full tuition scholarship...don't feel special...all Army ROTC scholarships are full tuition and fees. Well, you can feel a little special, you did get the scholarship after all.

Congrats Gbaart514!

all Army ROTC scholarships are full tuition and fees.
But not all are 4 yr. So while technically true, a 3 yr. AD behaves just like a 4 yr. 75% scholarship with Validation thrown in at the end of Yr. 1. The issue for families is how to pay for 100% of the first year, but after that the financial burden is zero. The school's financial aid office can help with that first year just as they would with any student that isn't on scholarship their first year.

Thinking about this, a 3 Yr. AD is better for getting decent Financial Aid than if it were 75% all four years.

And there is a tax benefit to covering the tuition the first year. Of course the benefit ain't much... but it's something.

EDIT: In fact, since the academic year covers two different calendar years there may be 2 years of some tax benefit. You gotta find the silver lining somewhere.

Actually tax benefits are pretty good if the scholarship is a 3 year AD and you still claim DS/DD as a dependent. For tuition paid fall semester (ecluding other scholarships or grants), it's $2,500 for AGI up to $160K, and then phased dow and hits zero when $AGI reaches $180K. For spring semester, you have to wait until the following tax year, but can reduce taxable income by up to $2,000. Assuming at least that much would have been taxed at the 25% marginal tax rate, that's a $500 reduction in taxes owed (or if applicable included in your refund). Pretty nice benefit. Also trickles down to get additional benefits from state income tax.
