I have the winter blahs, and we are expecting a new load of snow tomorrow....so let's have some fun and think spring/summer!
I am looking for graduation party decorating ideas for DS, who at this point has accepted an Army ROTC scholarship, and is still waiting to hear from USMA. So any ideas? The party will be outdoors, at our house, and we will have a "big" tent (which I refer to as the circus tent).
Past experience has shown me that boys care nothing about decorations, so I am doing this for ME!!!!

I tried to think of something besides American flags; lots and lots of American flags. But I couldn't come up with anything. Then again I'm a guy so I don't much care. Hoping this thread brightens my day and furthers my education in the decorating arena!

Like you, we are hoping for the SA appointment....USNA.
My son also received an NROTC scholarship.

So....my idea for his grad party, if that golden ticket from USNA arrives, is to have a Lobster Bake! It goes with the Annapolis theme.
Decorations would definitely be R,W,and B! And of course, we would need to throw some B&G in there too!

And....if not USNA, we will definitely be celebrating with a NAVY theme...but to be honest, I haven't even thought about that.

Ha kinnem, actually we have a good porch for putting up flag themed items....so that may actually work.
Where do you get camo netting? I actually think camo napkins are available too.

I see navy, gold and white balloons myself (but I love the idea of a camo net!!) and goat shaped cut out cookies. :)

Here's hoping!!

Get the camo netting at a Halloween store. Last year we decorated with tons of white and blue Christmas lights. They were everywhere and really established a nice festive mood. We also set up game areas in various parts of the yard: badminton, volleyball, corn hole, four square, basketball. And my son set up speakers and a playlist on my laptop with a slide show playing of pictures of his class from kindergarten thru senior year. Oh and there were torchlights for mosquito control. Ahhh I remember now how warm and wonderful it was. B-) He left the next day. :-(

The Christmas lights sound like a good idea. We usually have volley ball (this is grad party #4 and final!). And in this case there will be soccer! We have the torch lights, just need the liquid for them.
And, depending on where he goes....he also could be leaving within a few days of the party!

I like the christmas light idea too. This is my oldest, so we haven't done a grad party yet but last year, 2 of the seniors from the wrestling team got a huge inflatable obstacle course. 2 people could race through it and it was a LOT of fun for kids, grads and parents alike. So I'm thinking about one of those.....

Menu is also chosen as my son is a tex mex fiend. We'll be having chipotle catered per his request.

If you think you can keep your kid off the obstacle course I say go for it... otherwise it screams out "injury" to me. But then by graduation stepping off a curb would scream out "injury" to me.

Another source for camo netting would be army surplus or an outdoor store like "Gander Mt." or something like that. Halloween store would probably be cheaper though.

Well, if we are talking about bubble-wrapping here....I am most worried about the volley ball game....

It is inflatable. They would have to work really hard to hurt themselves. LOL

Of course. I'd be more worried about the invitation to "horsing around". Probably not a real concern. Really just wanted to make sure you thought about it.

Actually it did give me pause. And I will think about it before any final decisions are made....but he's wrestling right now and plans to play rugby in the spring. This is the least of my concerns!

Navymomwannabe - I love the blue and gold balloons and Goat cookies!
Air Craft Carrier cake?

That was my first thought!
Yikes.
Sprained ankle. Someone falls on his arm and breaks it. I see injuries that could make his summer miserable or worst, medical turnback.
I'd rather err on the safe side than have huge regrets.

We aren't kidding when we talk about wrapping appointees in bubble wrap!!! :thumb:

Agree with buff81

I was thinking bocce ball and that bean bag game you play on the beach!! :thumb:

Yeah, if he's leaving July 1st, then we probably won't have the inflatable obstacle course. I have a feeling we will be waiting until April 15 to find out one way or another but that will give me plenty of time to borrow corn hole sets from our neighbors instead. :thumb:
