My DS app status now says "We are sorry, you were not selected for a scholarship. You will receive a letter explaining other options available to you".

Is this a possibility with review boards still scheduled? I understood they still had 5 boards left, so not sure if this is an error or confirmed denial?

Anyone have any input for me?

status

My DS received the same e-mail in March of 2012, time to work on plan B.

At least now we know.
We do have a plan B in place and can get going on it now!

Not a Good Surprise Today

My DS has the same status on his page too posted as of today but no email with any update. Seems awfully early to get a thumbs down especially when there are still more boards to come. Also makes me think twice especially when we know he is competitive for USNA and has nominations to match (and passes the physical). Makes me think to wait a bit to see what happens next. We have Plan B, C, D, and on...so will keep them all in play till we know for sure.

I hear some boards have been deferred / delayed, which Branch did your students apply to(AFROTC / AROTC / NROTC)?

My DS's status changed today for NROTC.

Was : Processing (fill in the blank) Form.

To: COMPLETELY BLANK except for the last 4 of ssn and birthdate.

Yes, he was a last minute completion for NROTC....

Just looked and my DS portal says the same thing...we are sorry you were not selected for a scholarship. You will receive a letter explaining other options available to you.

Seems like a lot of disappointing updates today, I am a bit surprised so many of us on here are getting the same message on the NROTC portal.

At least we aren't the only ones, not that it helps!
I was under the impression that you kept moving on to the next board if you had not been selected?
Is there something that could DQ you earlier ie school choices?

Ditto...

Just checked the portal... "Sorry"....

Is this common when there are supposedly more boards?

Thanks!

This is just my view on it-not official info - just how military boards have been explained to me by my husband.
I think now that all the applications are in as of Jan 31st, they will start notifying those who are not getting the scholarship. They have a certain number of scholarships they know they can award from all the remaining applicants and I'm sure most of the packets have been scored so those who don't make a certain cutoff score get notified.

+1. My logic is the same. There is probably a certain pool size they need to award X number of scholarships and some people at this point, don't make the cutoff to get into the pool. Note that this is a national competition. The academies are initially a geographic competition. It's therefore quite possible that someone couldn't make the cut for the ROTC program but is still competitive for an academy.

On the plus side at least you know now. We didn't get the word until mid-April when my DS was going through the process. If your child is still intent on commissioning there is always the option of enrolling in the ROTC program of their choice without the scholarship, or OCS later. For Marines their is also Platoon Leaders Course.

NROTC posted a notification today on the web. AROTC is still in the mix and my DS's number one school is calling him personally to some an interview with them for a local scholarship (they have been watching his records for a while). My DS was torn between the Army and the Navy ROTC but I guess the Navy made the decision for him a little easier (always the bright side). And my DS also knows sometimes you have to fight for things you want...life is not fair but persistence and patience go a long way.

Same "SORRY" Message Here

DS just checked and also has the SORRY message.:thumbdown:

Well now all his eggs are in the AROTC basket. He was a bit disappointed but still hoping for the best with AROTC.

Just checked the NROTC portal, my DS selection status still says "No decision has been made on your application." Does that mean "my DS is still in a race or very much hopeless"?

Thanks!

I also received the sorry message, but I turned in my application really late so I think that's why. I listed some pretty competitive schools. Oh well, I have my West Point appointment and am more than happy! WP>NROTC

Checked my status tonight and was informed that I was not selected...a huge disappointment for sure, but I am excited for my plan B option....to travel New Zealand for a year! Wishing the best to the applicants who survived this round of news.

Status is still "No decision" as of now. I guess those who haven't been notified of a scholarship or rejection yet are still in the hunt for a very few scholarships. Can only hope I'm notified soon one way or the other.

Alastair, your plan B sounds much more interesting than mine! Always wanted to go to NZ to walk the Lord of the Rings trail to Mordor... Put it in your travel plans if you get a chance.

the process is not always clear...DS got the no-thank you from NROTC 3-15-12 was 3 Q'd with a nom and got the TWE from USNA on 4-5-12, not a great three weeks! Mourn the loss, but realize there are many avenues to commission, and if your DS or DD wants to serve they will find a way-mine did.

I agree with others, I don't think it is too early to get the :thumbdown: The fact is they do know the number of applicants and can use historical data from previous years to determine if they are on the cusp or definetly out of the running for the schools on their list.
~~~~If you think about it just from this forum most of the candidates will say they had their packets in back in Aug/Sept. I would think that very few just get it in down at the wire in Jan., thus the dust has settled and it is more sorting and placing than scoring tons of packages.
For 19s that are getting ready to start the process and lurking about this is why posters say pay attention to the school list you submit.
