So I want to get into a senior military college like VMI or the Citadel. I am a 2nd lieutenant in army rotc a varsity football letterman and since this is my sophomore I am not in the Honnor society but I do have a 3.1 GPA since I live in Florida out of state tuition for these schools can be very pricey so I would like to get a full ride army rotc scholarship and wouldnt mind playing for there football team. What are my chances?

A lot of it has to do with test scores and class rank. Apply for the Army ROTC scholarship. I seriously regret only applying for the Marine one. I got in for next fall and I have:
3.4 GPA
1760 SAT
3 year varsity football
Football captain
Various choirs
United States Naval Sea Cadet Corps
Community service
Church groups

Hope this helps!

You're only a sophomore, you can still get your GPA to a competitive range for the Army scholarship (~3.5). Also, a lot will depend on your ACT/SAT scores, so if you work hard this semester and next year you can be in a very good position. Keep playing sports, and seek out leadership positions, community service, and other things that can make you stand out for ROTC. I won a 4-year AROTC scholarship to VMI with the following:

3.8 GPA, 29 ACT, top 20% of class, two year varsity Tennis letterman, National Honor Society Secretary, lots of community service and a history of organizing community service events. Also did well on the interview and the PFA.

So as you can see, you don't have to be a superhuman to get the scholarship to an SMC. Keep your head down these next two years and work your butt off!

community service

I forgot to mention that I have a large amount of community service hours almost every Wednesday I tutor at an elementary school so my hours are well into the triple digits. About 182 hours to be exact.

Outstanding. Keep up the good work. I would also highly recommend opening as many doors as you can to serve as an officer in the military. Apply to as many Service Academies and SMC's as humanly possible. Apply to multiple ROTC scholarships. Buckle down these next two years.

Yepp, you have a great opportunity in terms of having time to pad your stats and open up doors for yourself. Don't be lazy and throw it away..... Get good grades, take the PSAT and SAT/ACT your junior year and do well, and keep doing what you're doing in terms of extracurriculars.

I believe that the University of North Georgia as well as Texas A&M University both provide "in-state" tuition for cadets, regardless of whether or not they are contracted. You should check with Corps staff at both institutions.
