Not sure where to start but I guess I'll just say that I'm feeling overwhelmed at the moment. I am in my second semester at university, freshman, Software engineer.

I joined AFROTC the first week of second semester and I'm playing catch-up with the rest of my flight. Currently I am not on a scholarship, I work part time, am only taking 17 credits, but I basically don't have any time to do anything fun with my other friends or just chill out without giving up study time.

But that's a different problem, what I want to know is my chances of being disqualified from ROTC. I haven't had time to see the medical doctors yet to check my physical requirements. I learned after joining that cadets with depression/other mental disorders are not qualified to join. I suffer from depression on and off, was hospitalized twice for attempted suicide, and the psychiatrist at the campus clinic thinks I may be a high-functioning Borderline Personality Disorder (I don't think it was diagnosed or entered into the computers, so it may not be "official").

After learning all of this, I've been giving considerable thought to dropping ROTC, mainly because there is no point continuing if I am not going to be able to get a scholarship and continue. I've also been questioning my motivations for joining, as I like the family feel of the flight (though I haven't really made any friends yet. :frown: ), but I'm not sure I'm military material.

Basically, due to my medical history, am I basically guaranteed to be kicked out of ROTC? I suffer from the depression on and off, but it has more or less gone into remission and you would never know I suffer from it, but I know that a combat situation is stressful and likely to bring out such issues.

I don't know what to do, any advice would be appreciated.

It might be best to ask this on the DoDMERB threads, if you haven't already done so.

I agree with linnem post this on Dodmerb if you have not already. I would also pm kp20001and maybry. (Check to make sure I have the exact names correct). Both are in the medical field, although they are not AF they should be give you guidance.

Good luck

No apology necessary. It's not so much its in the wrong subforum as we think you'll get more expert responses over there where the med guys hang out.
