I'm 15 years old and thinking about the navy and navy seals. If I were to start taking a hand to hand combat training class. What type should I take? Krav Maga? Karate? What is the best type to take? Thanks

The best is the one that calls for you to put your opponent on your shoulder and run a 7 minute mile - in boots - in sand.

Seriously, regardless of what you know coming in, the SEALS will teach you the combat form you need. Getting to that lesson is the hard part.

Good luck.

+1 to osdad. The thing to focus on is getting in shape to survive the screeners and then BUDS. This include, most importantly, the mental stamina to survive.

Taking a martial arts class now will in no way, shape, or form help you become a Navy SEAL. You're better off just swimming and running during the time you would've spent on that.

SEAL prep...

Join a Water Polo club and do Water Polo at high school. Do it all year round.

Push Hard, Press Forward

Though I'm not a SEAL, nor Special Forces, I did work in USASOC for years. In all those years I noticed one thing... All of our special operators are as smart as they are physcally fit. The best thing you can do now is hit the books hard!

+1 to tug and ABF. Two excellent suggestions that probably give the OP a different outlook on SpecOps. Knocking in doors is but a tiny part of it.

Thanks, I'll focus more on running and swimming. I am already on my high school swim team and I'm pretty decent so that shouldn't be a problem. So mainly running and getting mentally tougher. Cool.

YAY! You will go far in this world young man as you are evidently willing to learn from the experience and wisdom of others. Not all are! :thumb:

Do pushups, pullups, and crunches until you can't anymore. And when that gets too easy (defined as 1,000 pushups a day), then try doing situps with a log on your stomach. Try swimming under water and not coming up for air in a 25m length pool -- there and back (50m total); when that is too easy, jump in the pool and do a forward roll, then start going there and back. Run 4 miles in long pants and boots in the sand. If you live near the ocean, get a rubberized raft and paddle a half mile out and back.

Not being totally realistic here, but that is some of the stuff that goes on at BUD/S. If you haven't already searched for "SEAL Class 234," I recommend watching it (google or YouTube should have it).

Good stuff, I would also recommend the NSW Physical Training Guide that's online for free. In regards to the bold section I wouldn't recommend that because of the inherent danger without a few BUD/S instructors making sure you don't die.

I'm currently working my way up on the push ups and pull ups. I can do about 400 in a couple hours. Also I can already go about 30m underwater, but yeah I'll continue to get better. Thanks.

I actually found an app made by a former navy seal that shows many exercises to do in order to get ready for BUD/S. And yes I'll be careful. Haha
