Hello there,

I am going to be blunt and honest here.

I have thought about joining the Military since I was in High School. I did not join the Reserves, ROTC or any other "pre-Military" organization because I did not think ahead. Well, college went sour due to not reading the fine line. That's another story entirely, I attended a "for-profit" without realizing it because I didn't do my research.

So to get to my real issue. I graduated in 2011 attended college for 1 year then I quit. I have been working ever since and I want to go back to school I was thinking about the Air Force Academy. But as I do more research it seems that I will not be eligible to attend. I achieved a 25 on the ACT and I do not remember my High School GPA. I do have a high school Diploma.

If anyone can help me out even point me in the right direction of who to talk to that would be helpful.
Thank you,
Kuheld

Try these gentlemen- I think that is your best bet if you are serious: http://www.usarec.army.mil/5thbde/4gbn/

He wants to join the Air Force, and you sent him to the Army's recruiting site?

Hi Kuheld,

We all make mistakes, it's what we do afterwards that defines us. At least that's what I tell my kids.

So if your main goal is to return to school, have you considered the Air National Guard? Being in the guard can make you eligible for two great programs....

1) In many states the ANG will pay for upt to %100 of your tuition at a public in-state school.

2) The SR (select reserve) version of the GI Bill would also be available to you if you sign up for a 6-year contract. This would pay you a stipend of about $350 or so I believe for 3 years you are in school as a full time student. That stipend "stacks" with you weekend drill pay and the particular state tuition benefit.

Check with your recruiter of course for what you are eligeble for, but if active duty military is not your goal as much returning to school and as serving your state/country part time, then ANG/NG can be an awesome way to go.

Good luck and define yourself by what you do next, not what you've done.

Well, let me be blunt and honest too. Your college story is as clear as mud. Did you flunk out? That is the only thing that is of importance in going back to any school and that can be overcome, including attending an Academy. Do you want to be an officer? If so, then you need a college degree and, if you are looking for a scholarship, that means ROTC or an Academy. Do you want to be enlisted? If so, then you need to enlist and that is totally different career and do you know the difference between the officer and enlisted ranks? Is it just college you want? Even your thread is impossible to answer "Am I in a hopeless position?" For what? You need to focus on a specific question if you are looking for any help.

So, what is your 'real issue?' Get the HS GPA, get better test scores and apply. Oh, and by the way, apply to your plan B and C schools, too. And do some research before deciding on your school choices.
Or, keep thinking about it.

The Reserve component is not "pre-military." I'm not quite sure if you knew that or just communicated that poorly.

If you did poorly in high school, have low test scores, and failed out of college, USAFA is probably not a realistic option. It is not the only option though. For active duty, ROTC at a civilian college or OTS after college are options. Additionally, you could enlist.

The Guard and Reserve also have various options that I'm not quite up to speed on.
