Was wondering if any other enlisted have applied this year. I just received my nomination today was wondering if anyone else has. From what ive read its a good sign. Im worried because Im 22 and therefore ineligible for NAPS so I need direct admission and I've been out of school for a while although Im fully confident that I could excel academically.

The wait is killing me and im sure its getting to some of you too, figured we could talk about thing maybe ease some tension.

Anyone know exactly how much receiving a SecNav NOM means for enlisted chances?

Hey I didn't apply for 2018 but plan on starting this year starting April 1st for class of 2019. I have been through the application process and understand it thoroughly just wanted to complete a couple milestones in my enlisted career first. I am 19 and routed a chit letting requesting permission for consideration for the naval academy officer program. So my coc knows my intentions. I am hoping to go to naps because I have been out of school for a while. But I too am fully confident I will excel academically. I have been in 2 years and deployed twice. I don't really have any answers to your questions but I am curious your background in the navy etc. congratulations on the nomination.

Man finally someone else! Its very good that you’re starting at 19 I wish I would have.

So about me:
Over 3 years in with good conduct, started e-1 currently IT2(IDW), two NAMS, BJOQ, 2nd for BJOY (unfortunately). JEA Treasurer, EIDWS SME, 150+ hours of volunteering Have all my quals and multiple qualifications from other departments. Ive been overseas my entire enlistment. All of my recommendations including my CO's endorsement letter were extremely good; they were all really behind me. If you have any questions or want some advice based of my experience of applying, even if I don’t make it I'll try to stick around and answer questions.

But right off the bat I have a couple of pointers. Take the SAT multiple times as soon as possible. I was going to take it out here for a second time in October and then the whole government shutdown thing happened so they cancelled the test, and I had to buy a $1600 plane ticket to fly home and take it as they also cancelled FEML requests.

All the paperwork they ask for including your CFA, do IMMEDIATELY. You need the majority of it submitted for DODMERB to start your file, and if you’re deployed or overseas some of it may be difficult to get. Medical was a nightmare. I showed them the paper that said what forms DODMERB wanted but they still insisted on using theirs. It took several trips to medical. Considering we are already enlisted it should have been easy especially since nothing had really changed medically.

Explain to your chain of command the concept of rolling admissions, and that just because the last day to submit documents is the end of January, it doesn’t mean that’s when things HAVE to be submitted.

I'm also applying to the USNA. I'm also 22 years old and enlisted, so we will see in the next couple of months if we get picked up.

That is all great information. I know your struggle with the application process. I started last year filing my application but failed to get my COs endorsement. I really did not know how to go about routing the chit standing what boards I would need to stand etc. but now our division officer has written a sop for all officer programs and is the coordinator and really has been a big help. Everything now is crystal clear specifically command wise where I had trouble last year. It worked out for the best anyway I have more time to really put together a solid package.

With that said last year I did get qualified medically by DODMERB. I actually went to a civilian practitioner to do my physical eye test etc that was the instruction they sent me. it was relatively easily but most likely because I was in the states. But I did not finish my cfa or recommendations. So this year I am planning to do exactly what you said finish my application and have it submitted before September 1st. It works out perfectly as well for me because I come back from deployment just when class of 2019 admissions open. I really do need to take my sat/ act more I have only taken the sat once and know I can do much better. What you had to do shows you really want this. I really hope you make it. You sound very competitive.

I am a AD3 putting on my EAWS actually this month and hopefully put on 2nd this cycle. I take my test in March. I made 3rd first time up and plan on making 2nd first time up as well. I killed my test last march hopefully I can do the same this time. I am almost fully qualified in my shop. In aviation side we have plane captain and CDI ( collateral duty inspector) and once you make 2nd CDQAR ( collateral duty quality assurance representative.) I just hit my two year mark this month. For volunteer I am Vice President of our commands CSADD chapter. We arrange a lot of volunteer events and get younger and new sailors involved. Hopefully I am competitive enough. I came in knowing that I only want to be an officer and the academy is my first choice. If I think of any questions I will definitely ask you, you seem very knowledgable.

Ah man youre set then. Yeah I had some problems with the endorsment process, not because they didnt want to give me one, but it wasnt exactly lined up with the instruction. Good luck!

Nuke

Not sure if I'm different or not but i have a board in dec and march and I got picked up on the dec board so you might have to wait till march.

Even though it is late in the game, if there are other potential enlisted candidates out there who are looking at applying next year....find an Academy grad within your command! It will make asking questions about Academy life and the Admissions cycle a little easier. Every Academy grad has been through the Admissions cycle and even though it has changed slightly over the years, a lot of it remains the same and they will be willing to help you out. So don't be afraid to ask who in your command graduated from USNA and approach them for help.

Thank you Usnabgo08 yes I have contacted some, a few of our pilots are USNA grads not many but they have been a great help and really are willing to answer any questions and help any way they can throughout the process. In addition a couple are prior enlisted STA-21 So they help with the admission process as well even though the naval academy' is a little different. They are very informative.

Enlisted- yes same with my case it's not that they don't want to endorse me it is just how to, luckily now we got it all settled I hope to see you guys at the academy here in a couple of years. I don't know if it's weird but I would actually prefer going to NAPS

I won't have much Internet access here for just under a month but I will check back hopefully you guys have answers by then I look forward to hearing them.

Yeah I would definitely take NAPS if I was a year younger. Found out about this option a little too late in the game. Hope to see you all there too!

Good Luck and Thank You.

I just read this thread out of interest. I wanted to take a minute to wish you well in the process and to thank you in advance for your service. I don't just mean your service to our country but your service to your future non-prior-enlisted plebe summer roommates. My son said that one of his plebe summer roomates was a prior that made the age cut off by a week. DS said that he couldn't have made it through plebe summer without the help of his Prior roommate.

Good Luck and Thank You.

HEY SHIPMATES <<jk

:shake:I have a feeling our command career counselors haven't been doing their jobs!!!! Hello hm3 (FMF) molina age: 22, I applied for USNA Class of 2018 and I am just sitting and waiting. This has been a very long task for me to complete. Not only was it long, but I am currently stationed in Japan. Double whammy! Can't wait to find out the end result! The Academy is just a stepping stone to my big dream. Can I apologize onbehalf of the other corpsman that can't seem to do their job and give everyone hassle on their DODMBERB physical!! Very sorry! I had troubles with it too and I work in a damn clinc!! I hope everyone gets in! HOOYAH NAVY!

Where are you in the process? do you have a secnav nomination? Yeah I feel like this process would have been easier in the US too.

SecNav Nom

It's a pretty huge deal to get his nomination. If you read the instruction I believe it says he can only give out 170 to priors. Congratulations! I'm having trouble deciding if I really want to pursue this route though. E-4 over 4 years, I'm 22 and make the date by about a month. CPO Regino called me today to tell me to register for calculus or chemistry at a community college since I graduated 5 years ago. They want to make sure I can handle the course work seeing as how I've been in the fleet and not the class room. I hope it works out for everyone.

doneski

My application is complete. I finished it before 01FEB14. I did apply for the SECNAV. I will never take for granted how nice living in the states is.

So I just got back from a period of no Internet, how's it looking where do people stand. I'm curious to hear let me know. C/O 2019 opened today finished my preliminary app today look forward to started this admission process again ha.
