Asked if I would accept an Appointment

I was contacted my admissions officer that my application will be reviewed this week, and that he will be asked if I would accept an appointment. I was wondering if anyone else has gotten this kind of e-mail where you are asked by your AO something along the lines of 'how do you want me to answer?".

I replied yes but I mentioned that it wasn't my necessarily my FINAL decision because USCGA isn't the only SA I am an applicant to (USAFA + USNA) and I would have to consider them if I received an offer of appointment. Was this the wrong thing to do? If everyone receives a similar e-mail, am I the kind of applicant they are trying to weed out with this question? Am I over thinking this?

If this has been asked before I apologize, I tried searching for it but didn't find anything similar.

On another happy (but nail-biting, nonetheless) note is that when I heard back from him concerning my reply I am told that "You should hear something soon." I know I should only take this literally but I am really excited.
 
Seems fine to me. You said yes, but you also have other considerations. Nothing an admissions officer can fault you on there.
 
Acceptance of not

How many others have received a call or email asking if they would accept if an appointment were forthcoming? I think that is actually unfair for those of us still on the wait list. IF you truly do have another option and you have previously accepted at another academy, you should not hold your spot at USCGA. Let others just as deserving on the waitlist get an opportunity.

I think the point is, he hasn't made a decision yet. No worries, spots will not go unused!
 
For clarification, I have not received any offers of appointment at this time, wait list, prep schools, or otherwise (but glad on no TWEs). I had applied for RA to the three academies aforementioned and was confused having gotten this e-mail out of the blue.

My post was primarily out of concern because I hadn't heard of this before (being asked IF one would accept an appointment IF offered) and despite my research on what to expect during the admissions process had no idea how to react. If in the case that I will have to make a decision between multiple offers, of course I am obligated to make an informed decision out of respect for myself and the Academies, but would attempt to be hastily out of respect for fellow applicants. I agree that holding spots solely for the sake of holding spots isn't fair.

Thank you for the reply LineInTheSand, I hope that is how I came across, and not like someone who is seeking USCGA simply as an alternative.

No worries. Take your time and make the best decision for you. It's not always an easy decision, I can promise you that.
 
ROB A email about admission

What district are you from? I was asked the same thing last weekend.
 
I also received the same email but it also asked for my current grades

I'm from VA-02 if that means anything (not that it does a whole lot to USCGA). It's relieving to see others have gotten a similar e-mail, though I don't know why.

The message I received asked me the same, I neglected to mention it in my post, it was a very 'dry' feeling email (read: the wording felt like it was sent to a large amount of people).

VA 04- Asked the same thing except transcripts. They asked what varsity I am interested to join.

Options open, the admission officers may be are calling to make sure that these applicants have not already accepted appointments at other SA's.

The email I received was from the admission office. They informed me that I was placed on the waitlist and asked if I would except my place there. I never received an email asking if I would actually attend if given an appointment, should I be worried?
 
It's funny, when people are looking for a job, they forget that the guy on the other side of the table has needs too -- they are looking for someone and they do not want to be rejected. In many situations, I have done this myself and advised others to do it -- if there is a job you would take -- tell them directly: "If you offer me this position, I will accept it".

As part of the admissions process, there is typically a committee who evaluates the candidates and the admissions officer represents each candidate. The admissions officer can support each file as strongly as they choose. Given a set of files, all of which are strong, where should the officer commit their time and energy -- to a candidate who has committed to going to the school or someone who is waiting to see?

It sounds like you answered the question honestly and truthfully and that's key. What if the officer had immediately turned around and said, "Great, we have an appointment for you" -- what would you have said?

No need to worry. DS is also on the waitlist and had the same communication from admissions. From another post, it seems that last year's waitlist was rumored to have been cleared. If that is the case, very encouraging news for waitlisted candidates! Hang in there. :smile:
