What to do on a tour of USMA?

Hi,

I'm taking my son on a tour of the USMA in early April. I would appreciate information on things to see and do on the tours at West Point, as well as the surrounding area. How much time should I allocate for a complete tour of everything it has to offer?

Are you going on an Admissions tour or the tour you pay for at the Visitor's center? We did both. Our son only did the Admissions tour - and he did that with a cadet while we went with a group of parents. The one we paid for was very informative also. There are many places on campus you are not allowed to go, such as the barracks (although we saw those when DS went to a sports camp there), but many you can go into. Do visit the Visitor's center (outside Thayer Gate). there is not much in the immediate area to see....
 
The Infantry museum outside the gate is great if you have the time and into history. Not much to the town. Constitution Island has some good history. Off of course all the primary locations on the post

The bus tour that you get at the Visitor's Center gives a good overview of West Point.
There are also Hudson River boat tours that leave from Newburgh.

Yes, we're doing both tours, and the museum.
