As an example number, 650060, what is the significance of the numbers? I had heard that the first number represents the year of the graduating class, yes?

Yes. First number is grad year followed by numerical order of applications started

I had read that somewhere...sorry if it is incorrect.

I read it somewhere as well, and I think you would get partial credit for your answer.

On another note, how come somebody from 2019 said they already have their Candidate #? I didn't think that was possible yet.

I don't believe Navy has begun giving candidate numbers to 2019 applicants yet, however I received my candidate number for West Point months ago...

I believe a completed NASS application results in a candidate number. Our DS is a HS junior with a candidate number which begins with a 9.

oh my mistake...yes DS's starts with an 8. I was thinking the first 2 numbers which really didn't make any sense! LOL

DD's NASS acceptance email listed her candidate number on it, and it also starts with a 9.

Yes, DS' candidate number came with his acceptance for Summer Seminar,, and starts with a...number 9, number 9, number 9 :)

OK, but...

Yes. First number is grad year followed by numerical order of applications started

I had read that as well, but our son's number is 841XXX, and he opened his file soon after they began accepting applications last spring. Were there really upwards of 42,000 applications started for the class of 2018?

The first two digits, I believe, are reserved for class and region, followed with the remaining in sequential order.

usnabgo08, that is how mine is. I would be C/O 2018 and I'm region 3. I also started my app very early.

830XXX

OK - that makes more sense!

Class of 2018, Region 4 and somewhere above the 1400th applicant - that works! Thanks, usnabgo08!
