Hello,
I applied to SLE in January and my application is still pending. My question is can you look at my stats and tell me why I could not be getting in?

Currently work as a ski instructor. I am a registered member of the professional ski instructors of America.
I also work at a family fun center after I get off from instructing.

Member of book club, ski club, debate team(President), chess club, academic team, FBLA (competing in states for cyber security), Boy Scout (joined recently and almost to eagle. I attended the national jamboree and was picked to be the spl. I am currently our troops aspl), geology club, anti-bullying club, newspaper staff, church group member, camp counselor, and a student body representative .

Run varsity cross county (2 years), varsity track (3 years), football and basketball (1 year each)

I am a member of my school's jrotc battalion. I am the battalion commander (our highest position). I am on the jrotc academic, drill, marksmanship, color guard, and raider team. I am the captain of many of the teams. I have also been to the jrotc summer camp two times.

community service
Over 300 hours through jrotc, the Boy Scouts, and soup kitchens, etc.
5 day mission trip to New Jersey for hurricane sandy help(not included in my hours)

My ACT scores is what I believe to be holding me back. I only took it once and didn't do good at all. I have enrolled in ACT prep and have signed up to take it again. My scores are as followed - MATH-23 READING-29 ENGLISH-21 WRITING-21 SCIENCE-22.

Could my ACT score be whats holding me back from getting accepted into SLE, or is there something else?

Thank You

Uh, everything besides your ACT scores look good. I think you may have answered your own question in that regard. I would advise you to look at the class profiles from previous years. In all likelihood that could be one of the major reasons. Hope this helps.

I agree with websurfer234. USMA requires a PSAT/SAT/ACT score for the SLE application. On the USMA Admissions FB website, they have stated that they are "looking for PSAT scores that would compare to competitive SAT scores for admission to West Point." Look at the Class of 2017 profile -- the majority of ACT scores are in the 26-36 and SAT scores are in the 600-800 range. Take one or both tests as many times as you can to increase your score. It's the best way to improve your WCS once you are a candidate.

Skier - quick answer. You ACT scores are too low-you are not competitive unless you get those scores up.

SLE is not just about being the top candidate. It also targets exposing underrepresented groups and/or individuals. Don't confuse SLE with getting an appointment. The two are not always directly related.
With that said, your scores are low and need to be addressed. Look at the current class profile and you will see. The good news is you have time to work harder and address the issue.

ACT likely and perhaps your class rank. If your school doesn't rank, ACT becomes more important.
