Please refer to page 26 of the Instructions to Appointees.

"Notification of Non-Selection Letter
Official candidates (with nominations) who are qualified for admission but have not been selected in the nomination categories for
which they were eligible and who do not rank high enough to be competitive for qualified alternate appointments will be notified by
early April. A limited number of late appointments may be offered after these letters are sent to fill specific congressional vacancies
created by withdrawals or declinations. If you have not received an appointment by May 1, you should plan to exercise other
options.

Note: Under NO circumstances should you travel to the Academy the week before entry date in the hope of receiving a last-minute
appointment.

Letter of Disqualification
Official candidates whose admissions files are incomplete or who do not meet all admissions requirements will be notified by early
April. Normally, files not completed by January 31 will be closed from further admission consideration and those applicants will be
considered “disqualified”. Early disqualification letters are sent monthly from September to December. Any questions should be
directed to your Admissions Counselor."

Additional comment. If you are disqualified or your file is incomplete, your status appears on your portal.

That should be page 26 of the Instructions to Candidates.

Unlike many USAFA candidates, my DS didn't realize the USAFA was what he really wanted until October 2013. Had planned to apply for AFROTC scholarship and attend 4 year traditional school at a highly academic institution. After discussing the Academy with alumni, and going on a tour, he came to the realization that the Academy was where he wanted to be and it became his #1 choice. We live in Colorado, however, one of the most competitive areas, for admission to the USAFA.... just 15 minutes down the road. He called his Congressman and Senators and they had already closed their application processes by then. In fact, they had already conducted their interviews and were getting ready to send out their nomination packets already. We were obviously very late, and rather discouraged. After consulting with alumni again, we were told that while we had missed some opportunities, we should still apply, as they felt my son was very competitive academically, and so DS went through the entire application process in about 3-4 weeks time and had all aspects completed before Thanksgiving.

Only nomination eligible for was Vice Presidential, which DS applied for, of course.

Stats:
3.95 unweighted GPA
Class rank = 17 of 273 (unweighted)
35 on ACT
(35 Eng, 35 Math, 34 Reading, 36 Science, Combined Eng/Writing: 32)
3 year Varsity Baseball (Captain - Senior year) w/ many baseball awards
NHS, Link Leader, Key Club, History Day competitions, etc.
Average CFA - not sure of specifics there.
Qualified DodMerb/Vision

NO NOMINATION (....yet)

Not sure what the process looks like for DS. Waiting to hear about VP Nomination. We've been told that there are other ways to obtain a nomination, but I'm not sure how any of that works .... does national pool apply to DS? Or just the VP Nomination?

Trying so hard to be patient, but as others are notified, it's making us more and more anxious. We continue to hold out hope that it will happen if it is meant to be. Just thought I'd share our situation, in case there are others out there that are in the same boat as us. I would say DS is a "long shot", but alumni have been very optimistic about his chances, even though he was so late getting started in the process.

Best of luck to everyone!

Guys, just relax. You'll hear from USAFA eventually, most likely very soon. Go out, enjoy the nice weather.

Appointments

I just have a question. So they're giving out appointments next week too, Thursday I would assume. Does that mean if we don't get one Thursday we're not accepted? Since 'non-select' letters are being sent out in April?

Not necessarily. Though I am waiting to find out about my youngest son and trying to be patient. My oldest received her appointment to USAFA on May 2, 2010. Granted the bulk will probably have gone out and they will still be waiting on those who choose not to attend as of May 1st. I don't know the class size for this year, but in the past if you follow the appointment thread you can see an average of 10% participation on this forum. I would say that based on that (this is mostly conjecture at this point and not actual) that approximately 80% of appointments have gone out. Keep the faith for just a while longer =)

In regards to 'Thursday', that was the day of the week that DS's portal was updated. You'll recieve an email to check your portal if anything is there...

My portal now says "released 24 March 2014" but my status has not changed from "Candidate"....

Ditto! At least it doesn't say rejected. Any idea how many more appointments will be given this week? I've been praying every night haha. Best of luck to everyone

A previous post stated the review board meets on Wednesdays.
The Air Force Academy (Admissions) page stated they would release more appointments this week.
My deferral letter states "Admissions will let you know your final status in early April."

Based on those three points, I think one could reasonably assume a majority of the remaining appointments will go out this week.

USAFA Online Application v2.41e, released 24 Mar 2014
Today's date is 3/24/2014 (US Mountain Time)
