Curious to know if anyone else's afrotc portal has been updated recently? Was updated for me today and finally met at the previous board but is going to be evaluated at the next board end of march. The wait seems never ending! According to the update about another 3-4 weeks for me

Welcome to the forum.

Your answer regarding portal updates can be found on many threads, justsearchAFROTC board selection.

It appears to me, you were reboarded. This is not a goodorbad sign. It maybe as simple as you are on the cusp between a 1 and a 2, a 2 and a 7 and a 7 or nothing.

The bug thing you should be doing right now is reading the EA threads because a scholarship is not going to guarantee an EA slot. If the AFROTC scholarship is the only way to pay for your dream college re think his option.

I am not trying to be harsh, but as a new member if you read the EA threads you will understand for AFROTC it is at least two more years of fighting to prove yourself.

I appreciate the response, and am glad you could help.

I am aware of the competitiveness in ROTC itself and that a scholarship does not mean you are automatically set to be where you want to be after graduation, and have also planned as if there is no scholarship to be relied on so i am confident to be heading in a similar direction with or without the scholarship involved.

As far as the application goes i haven't been able to find an answer that if I had listed only in state schools, does that take type 1 and 2 scholarships outs of the question during board selection, seeing as the benefits would be the same as a type 7? Or like you said could still be on a line between 1 and 2, 2 and 7, or 7 and nothing?

AFROTC is not like A/NROTC where college selection matters. They look at your stats and if you are going tech or non-tech.

AFROTC type 7 4 year can be converted to a type 2 3 year with no problem. You don,t need approval from them, it is just a signing on the dotted line.

You can still receive a type 1 or type 2 scholarship even if you are planning to attend an instate school. I know some in state cadets with type 2s probably because they also listed OOS schools in their application too. But it is likely that if you do get a scholarship, it will be a type 7 since you only listed instate schools. It wouldn't matter anyways whether you got a type 1 or a 7, both would cover the exact same amount for you which is your full tuition, fees, book money, and a stipend. HQ will probably save the type 1s and 2s this year for winners who will likely go to school out of state. Why would they give someone one of their precious type 1s if it is clear that they would only need a type 7?

Idk what your stats are, but your top choices being instate will likely help your case. My top choice was in state and I got into it EA so the acceptance letter and cheap tuition and fees probably helped my file a little (got a type 7 two years ago), it certainly couldnt have hurt it. It's true AFROTC scholarships arent tied to specific schools, but they do look at your school choices. All things being equal of 2 candidates who are between a type 7 and nothing, the one going in state will look better than the guy trying to go to an expensive OOS private school. However, I wouldnt count on that being the deciding factor.

Hopefully this answers your question.
