I just found out today that my DS was one of 267 Marshall Award winners. Unfortunately, his unit only sends the winner to the seminar every other year and that was last year.

I found out through a 3rd party. When I asked him about it he said, "Oh yeah I forgot to tell you that"

No need to apologize for that --- such humility, and what an accomplishment! Congratulations to him -- and to you, too.

Of course you have to Brag a little.....THAT is your JOB as a parent....
If we left it up to our kids then nobody would know about their amazing accomplishments!!

Congrats to your DS and congrats to you for raising such a honorable young man.

Congratulations to your son. Sorry to hear he won't be attending the seminar. It's a great program with a chance to meet top cadets from all over the country, and get exposure to the intellectual side of the business. From what I see, the real honor is in attending the seminar, not getting a certificate. Is it a battalion budget issue?

Congrats to your son jrhawlsdad! Too bad he doesn't get to attend. :frown:

Oh! What a great honor! Of course you have to brag. Congratulations to you guys..

Would someone like to explain how these cadets are chosen for the award?

Congrats to your son! I was selected as one of the winners as well, though this year my brigade can only send 22 winners to the conference and I was not one of the randomly selected to go. Still an honor

No, it's higher than that. I don't know about CC wide, but my brigade (5th) only got to send around 22 winners to the seminar.

Cajun, the Marshall winners are selected by each programs cadre as the top cadet in the program.

Congrats. The Marshall Awards is that thing when ROTC kids come to VMI in their semi-real ASU's, correct?

? Actually a serious question, friends there have told me of it. It's a great accomplishment, I know that.

Yikes. Sorry to all, I left my account open and my less-than-funny friend decided to play internet instigator for a while. Congrats to your DS and apologies again.

Guess his missed the parts when the "ROTC kids" have VMI kids show them around and make sure those darn rotc kids get settled into their hotel nicely. The same ROTC kids that have been chosen as the top ROTC kids in the nation, a large number of which are prior service with deployments.... darn semi-real uniforms....

Not necessary. We were all dumb enough to sign away 3-9 years of our lives away to the government. What flavor it comes in matters little.
