Do any of your know whether someone attends the end of year Senior Award events to present West Point Appointment to the students? Those of you that have been through this: Who arranged it? Who came?

Thanks

My DS's Field Force Rep who was a West Point Grad presented his appointment at his Senior Awards Ceremony. Contact your FFR to arrange this and you may need to get permission through your son/daughter's school administration.

My son contacted his FFR (who he never met/was out of the country when DS was going through the application process) and FFR said he would be honored to present the certificate of appointment or arrange for another representative in the event something came up. I checked with DS's school to make sure it was ok, and they said yes, putting the presentation at the beginning of the ceremony (taking place next week). So it doesn't hurt to ask -- make sure the school is ok with it though. It's a great way to introduce other students/parents to West Point.

We contacted his Liaison Officer and requested it.

Give them plenty of time to plan, as they have tight schedules.

My FFR told me he normally does presentations for those who get in...so I gave my guidance counselor his contact information so she could talk to him about speaking at my graduation

I was told that my FFR would be contacted about presenting at awards night.

My FFR emailed me asking if I wanted him to come to an award ceremony. So I forwarded it to my counselor and she said that he will be there! But if he/she hasn't contacted you, just ask him if that's a possibility.

My FFR sent me the graduation ceremony script. Make sure they present your appointment at the end of the awards ceremony. Your appointment is apart from everyone else's awards, and should be recognized as such, also apart from any other commissioning or enlisting ceremonies.

IMHO, that is the WRONG approach. West Pointers are not making any "bigger" commitment to our nation's service than anyone else in the room.

I've shared on here before, while the Naval and Marine recruiters were trying to trump each other by boasting about the value of enlistments( with GI Bill benefits,) our son's MALO announced DS's award in a very calm, dignified manner. he might as well have dropped the microphone on the stage when he walked off. It was different, and everyone knew it was different; but there was zero attempt to belittle anyone else or set the announcement apart.

I was proud of how it was done.

How so?

At this point you and every other Appointee, ROTC Scholarship recipient, or any scholarship awardee have only been given the opportunity. The hard work has not yet started, this is why nobody frames their acceptance or appointment letters, or at least they shouldn't.

Just curious, what sets this appointment apart from all other commissioning awards, after four years you'll find that all gold bars shine the same. You might want to re-think that statement about being set apart from enlisted ceremonies.
