Can you tell me a little bit of what happens on RDay? How should I prepare for it? Why do some people leave ON rday or get disqualified on RDay?

Rather than explain, go to youtube and type R day USMA. The admissions dept puts out a ton of videos with what R day is and what it consists of.

To prepare for R day, honestly the best advice is to take a deep breath, grit your teeth and just do what they tell you to. A day can only last for so long, you're going to be in beast for 7 weeks, take it one step at a time.

There are many resources to learn what to expect. I'd start w/ David Lipsky's Absolutely American. While it isn't recent, not much has changed. Also, try to get a hold of National Geographic's Surviving West Point.

So much of what happens on R-Day is mental. Be prepared physically for the rigors of that first day because physical exhaustion can and will affect you mentally. It also goes without saying, BE ABLE TO PASS THE APFT! Lots of running over the next few months will help so much. Also if you are not from a hot/humid climate, get yourself heat acclimated. Best of luck slaying the BEAST!

so, on RDAY we are tested physically? In the videos robinhood17 referred to, all I saw was checking in and marching. Are the videos missing the physical dimension of it?

Last year, on r-day, new cadets were required to do pull-ups (or flexed arm hang for female new cadets who could not do pull-ups). Also new cadets were told via several communications in the spring to arrive in compliance with height/weight standards. My understanding is that a few who exceeded the weight standards were sent home on R-day.

Injury....

If you show up with an injury...you will be sent home. On drugs, either prescribed or recreational. Drunk.

Yes it does happen, oddly enough.

A bit has changed...don't read too much into that book/those movies. They're not very accurate anymore.

Well, it's been a few years since my R day, but I remember getting yelled at(which they're not allowed to do anymore), carrying a heavy bag full of stuff around, wearing a ridiculous outfit, getting yelled at some more, putting that ridiculous little book in front of my face to avoid drawing attention to myself, and standing in place for an hour plus at a time. My feet went numb on R day from standing, and didnt really regain feeling till after beast.
